Load Cells Control of Bioreactors

A load cell controller is a device used to convert the electrical signals to readable real-world values in the load cell.

The bioreactor is considered an indispensable part of all kinds of bioprocesses. From the process of degradation of pollutants to the production of multiple substances such as food, pharmaceuticals, chemicals, feeds, tissues, and organs for biomedicine, etc., bioreactors are a must. To ensure the bioreactor works properly, and the bioprocess is done properly, the suitable environmental conditions required for the bioprocess must be given. There are a lot of components and associated devices that are attached to the bioreactor and each of those devices is placed to perform a specific task. To measure multiple forms of physical values like weight, load, torque, pressure, strain from one or multiple cells, a load cell is used. The load cell control is necessary to make the load cell work and these two devices are used in conjunction to perform the task of converting the electrical signals into readable values indicating physical measures. The load cell consists of both a measuring circuit and an excitation circuit.

What is a Bioreactor?

The bioreactor is an apparatus used for growing organisms like yeast, bacteria, animal cells, etc. this apparatus is used in factories for the production of vaccines, antibodies, and pharmaceuticals. There are different kinds and sizes of bioreactors that are accordingly used for a particular purpose and volume of production.

Stirred Tank Bioreactor

The stirred tank bioreactor is a commonly used bioreactor that primarily consists of two main parts; a cylindrical shaped vessel and a stirrer inside it.

Parts of a Bioreactor

The stirred tank bioreactor is the most commonly used and this bioreactor is widely used in multiple types and sizes of factories. The bioreactors come in different sizes and are typically cylindrical. The main two recognizable components of the bioreactor are the cylindrical vessel and the disc turbine impellers which are attached to a long stirrer shaft from right through and across the cylinder in a vertical direction. Other than these two parts, other channels and pipelines are also present which all serve very different purposes.

Functions of a bioreactor

The function of a bioreactor is to biologically convert raw materials into different products. The bioreactor provides the proper environmental conditions to perform the process.

Conclusion

Bioreactors are the apparatus used for the growing of living organisms and culture to produce useful products under favorable conditions. The bioreactors are also used in bioconversion processes where raw materials are converted into purposeful by-products. These instruments are very crucial in many industries for the manufacturing process as they provide a healthy and suitable biologically active environment for the bioprocesses. Among many devices which are attached to the main device (the bioreactor), the load cell is one of the most important ones. The load cell is attached to different areas of different bioreactors. With the help of an excitation circuit and a measuring circuit, the signals are received, and then measured and displayed on a display screen respectively. In industries where the weight of the substances used is very crucial, it is very important to recognize the importance of this device which ensures that all the ingredients are added into the bioprocess in proper proportions and the bioprocess is checked at all times and there are no alterations in the preferred conditions required for the culture of the living organisms inside the bioreactor. The load cells inside the bioreactor are designed to serve unique functions and each load cell may be different from one another in a variety of ways but their main concept will be the same; to measure the parameters involved with the help of sensors and display the results to ensure product quality, manufacturing safety standards and minimizing health risks.
