Current affairs are the world’s happenings, quite literally the current affairs of the world. It refers to every single thing currently taking place in the world right now, and the people well versed in it are incredibly knowledgable and well-read. It is incredibly vital for all the aspirants of the Kerala Public Service Commission (Kerala PSC) to make good note of the current affairs taking place in the world. To be in public service, one must be fully aware of our surroundings, immediate, national and even international.

We need to be smart and aware of global happenings because it not only helps to do the job better, but also to take from what is happening elsewhere and inculcate what’s good in our lives, and learn from the bad and eliminate it in our own practises. All in all, current affairs provide you knowledge not only about the happenings of the world but also about the systemic practises from which we may learn and grow.

Current Affairs Definition

Current affairs definition refers to, quite literally, the current happenings in the present world. “Current” refers to the present moment and all the facts, emotions, incidents, events, etc. that are taking place at that moment. It can also extend to a day back and forth in terms of current affairs, and even incidences that stretch out over longer periods of time and yet continue in the current. “Affair” refers to an event or incident that has taken place, thus, “current affairs” together refer to incidents and events taking place in the current time sphere. Such is the current affairs definition which is relevant to all global citizens.

Classification Of Current Affairs

The classification of current affairs takes a regional stance and divides it up based on which event falls into which geographical categorisation. There is so much news in the world that if we do not divide it up this way, it would be very confusing to understand what is what. You can think of the classification of current affairs in terms of the divisions of a newspaper. A newspaper is divided into several categories, and it is our best source of current affairs, so let’s use it to understand more about it. The following is the classification of current affairs as we see in the newspaper:

  • National News: notable political events across the country
  • International News: important political events taking place globally
  • Local News: noteworthy political events that have taken place in the city
  • Sports News: news from the sporting world-spanning countries, including about latest tournaments, leagues, opens, et cetera
  • Business, Financial and Industry News: this talks about the developments in the business and investments sectors, currency value news, among other such similar concepts
  • Energy News: this classification of current affairs covers the developments in the energy infrastructure sector
  • Entertainment News: This section covers news about all national and international celebrities
  • Opinions and Editorials: opinion pieces were written by prominent figures including writers and journalists

Many newspapers have the same sections that have been mentioned above, but they are often named differently from how we have mentioned them. The classification of current affairs depends on one source of current affairs to another. For example, in some newspapers, the business sector may be called the investments sector, or ‘economy’ sector, and as such. However, mentioned above are the most basic categories of current affairs.
