Introduction
Food is an integral part of the life of every human being and in this context, it is crucial to maintain proper storage of foods in order to keep them fresh and hygienic for consumption. It is also mentioned that food habits and the hygiene of food through proper storage determine the health of consumers. In Kerala, much attention is given to a selection of food as well as a selection of the process of storage in order to maintain a healthy lifestyle which has been discussed under this study. Moreover, storage of water that is essential for not wasting water has also been discussed under this study.
Basic food science
Kerala PSC is a body that has been created in Kerala by the “constitution of India”. It is the body that is associated with the job of selecting aspirants for “civil services” One of the major work of those aspirants after getting the job is to look into the matter of storing food properly within the state so that in case of any natural calamity or case of any disasters the stored food can be used to meet the necessary demand for food within the state. It needs to be noted that in many cases the state, Kerala has faced disasters like floods and in such cases, the scarcity of food has been noticed and therefore this step of attention towards storage of food is crucial. Moreover, choosing food that is important for the citizens to stay healthy also comes under the responsibility of KPSC agents. During summer in Kerala, there are shortages of water also being witnessed and from this account, it is necessary to store water and use it when needed.
Food science is a field of study that helps to have a multi knowledge about several factors like chemistry, nutrition, biochemistry, engineering, and n microbiology. This knowledge helps an individual to resolve several problems that are associated with the system of management of food and selection of food items to grow in order to meet the demand of the people of the state and also in order to export and earn more profits. Moreover, this basic food science also helps in protecting or maintaining safety regarding food.
There are five areas that food science deals with that are mentioned below:
- “Food chemistry and biochemistry”
- “Food microbiology”
- “Food engineering and processing”
- “Sensory analysis”
- “Nutrition”
Selection of these foods and storage
Selection of food refers to choices made on food that are “good” for consumption. In terms of the running or the current services related to food, selection of food has become very crucial. Providing those foods to consumers that are important for them helps in satisfying demand and needs is a tough job. Therefore the selection of food requires important steps to be followed like planning and appropriate decision making in terms of selection of food.
Storage of water in this changing world where globalization is leading to the disruption of balance in the environment is very crucial to be maintained with a strong hand or else the disaster is not too far. “Water storage” is a broader term and it includes storage of both portable and also non potable water sources. Moreover, the climate change that has been witnessed in the last few years has ignited the need for the storage of water. Water can be stored properly for a period of 12 months and can be used according to a necessity within that period.

It can be concluded that the steps through which food can be stored properly are keeping the food clean, keeping the food at a temperature under which bacteria and viruses cannot affect the food, cooking thoroughly, using water to thoroughly clean the food before consumption.
