Kerala Police Constable Cut-Off

The recruitment for the position of police constable is done by the authority known as Kerala Public Service Commission. This is the body owned and regulated by the government and formed by the constitution of India. The body has many functions to perform in the state, such as advising the government over various issues and recruiting people for various government jobs. The Kerala Public Service Commission conducts many highly coveted jobs in Kerala, and one of these many highly respectable jobs is that of a police constable. Every process, right from the release of notification regarding vacancy till the release of the final merit list, is done by this authority.

The selection criteria regarding the position of a police constable are very extensive as it needs physical and mental strength. The whole process is done in a very unbiased manner, and it should be kept in mind that only the most qualified person for the position is selected.

Eligibility Criteria

Since the position of a police constable requires a lot of physical and mental strength, the eligibility criteria are extremely demanding, and one should be almost perfect physically to be able to apply for the position. The various criteria are discussed below.

1. Age Criteria- The age criteria for this job is a minimum of 18 years and a maximum of 26 years. Anything other than this range is unacceptable. There is a certain age relaxation on the maximum age in case of backward categories, which will be specified by the government.

2. Educational Qualifications- The job of a police constable is physically more demanding than academically. This is why the educational qualification needed to apply for this position is SSLC or any certificate equivalent to the same in the eyes of the government.

3. Physical Qualifications- The most demanding and extensive part of eligibility is the physical aspect. Below are the various physical requirements.

(i) Height- 167cm

(ii) Chest- 81 cm

NOTE: It should be noted that a minimum expansion of 5 cams is required. Also, the measurements are reduced to 160 cm for scheduled caste candidates and 76 cm for scheduled tribe candidates, but the expansion limit will remain the same for all.

(iii) Visual Standards- The distant vision for both the eyes should be 6/6 Snellen, and the near vision should be 0.5 Snellen each. Any person suffering from colour blindness will not be considered for application.

NOTE: The job of a police constable provides no physical relaxation. Any person who is disabled in any physical way will be disqualified, and everyone seeking the position should be in a state of perfect physical condition.

Process Of Selection

  • Endurance Test

The first step of the selection process after applying for the job is the endurance test. Under this test, a person must participate in a 3 km long road run, which should be strictly completed in under 13 minutes. Anything more than this regarding time is not to be considered, and the person would be disqualified if they fail to do so.

  • Written Test

Those who qualify for the written test by going through the endurance test will have to participate in a written OMR-based examination of 100 marks. The cutoff for the same for 2019 is given below for reference so that candidates will know the average requirements.

District                                                Cut Off (2019)
Thiruvananthapuram 38.67 marks and above
Pathanamthitta 39.67 marks and above
Thrissur 35.67 marks and above
Malappuram 34.33 marks and above
Ernakulam 31 marks and above
Idukki 30.67 marks and above
Kasargod 29.67 marks and above

Note: It should be noted that this cutoff is for general category candidates only.

The following points should be kept in mind while giving the written examination.

(i) every candidate must clear the cut-off score to qualify for this step and get through the physical test after this to get the position.

(ii) There are various factors such as number of candidates, number of vacancies and the category of candidates which affect the cutoff score every year. Hence, the cut-off doesn’t need to range around the same score as the previous year.

(iii) Even though a candidate secures good marks in the written test, it does not guarantee their position. The written test is just one of the steps, and a person has to go through a physical test after this.
