Beats are areas of forest that include several villages. They are the responsibility of a Beat Forest Officer who is responsible for their protection and management. They visit their beat regularly to inspect it, patrol it, and guide the villagers in its care. The Beat Forest Officer role is to protect and preserve forests, natural springs and rivers through active participation by citizens. The Beat Forester works to demystify erroneous beliefs about forests, generate awareness of the need for conservation and increase respect for the forest’s resources. He is a man of science. He brings to his job a methodical mindset, an objective analysis and a sensitivity towards our environment. The Beat Forester understands the importance of forests in people’s lives and has the ability to take their problems as his own. He has empathy with tribal communities, who are often neglected in the development process. The Beat Forester also understands that forest is a dynamic entity that needs adjustments to allow it to respond effectively to challenges. He has the ability to work with communities and promote an environment where they can resolve their problems on priority, thus enhancing their capabilities and enhancing the quality of life of all concerned. The Beat Forest Officer has an ability to inspire and empowers others with his personal initiative, flexibility and innovation. His vision is far reaching and he fosters cooperation amongst all concerned, including his own people.

Candidates must have one year of service experience and are required to score at least 45% marks in the qualifying exam for this post. He/She must be a person who has lived within their beat area for at least 5 years, has knowledge about the forest condition in his/her area, and is familiar with various forest laws, rules and regulations governing forests.
Conclusion:
After a lot of ongoing discussions with the Forest Department and other government departments, the Kerala Forest Development Corporation (KFDC) has published a notice to publish this exam pattern for interested applicants on their official website as well as in newspapers. .
The Forest Department of Kerala released a notification inviting applications for recruitment of beat officers (BHA) under the Beat Officer Scheme(which was introduced by Government of India as Staff Selection Commission Examination Pattern dated 02/01/2000).
