Stenographer Kerala PSC: Exam Pattern 2022

The exam pattern for Kerala PSC exams for the post stenographer follows certain general guidelines as provided by the state government. The exam pattern for the Kerala PSC stenographer eligibility examinations depends on the updated guidelines and the information gathered from the latest examinations. Candidates who are interested in appearing for this examination must check the information on marking schemes, eligibility criteria as well as other necessary notifications. Arithmetic

This topic includes the following fields:

  • Simplification
  • Mensuration
  • Divisibility and Factorisation and Factors
  • Percentage and Interests
  • Reasoning and logic
  • Classification
  • Decoding and coding
  • Number and Letters Series
  • Age Problems
  • Calendar problems
  • Direction
  • Alphabetical problems
  • Ratio as well as Proportion

General Knowledge

This section of the Kerala PSC examination is relatively easy to crack and score good marks. Candidates must keep themselves appraised of all the current affairs and have good general knowledge. Those candidates are encouraged to take up quizzes and read up on updated versions of general knowledge guidebooks and handbooks. General knowledge comprises the following topics but is in no way limited to these alone:

General English

English is a very important language in Kerala PSC after Malayalam and proficiency in English is checked regarding writing and speaking. Typing is also important in the stenographer position. Typewriting English (KGTE/MGTE), and Typewriting Shorthand English (KGTE/MGTE) are important considerations.

General English is important for communication and official purposes. studying these sections for the Kerala PSC examination regarding the stenographer position is going to add an added edge to the strategy of the students. Scoring good marks in this section is not very difficult.

Regional Language 

Regional language is emphasised in the state examination. Malayalam is the regional language. 10 marks are accorded to this section. For candidates appearing for stenographers, typing skills are essential.

  • Typewriting Malayalam (KGTE)
  • Shorthand Malayalam (KGTE)

The exam duration for this section is one and a half hours. 

Marking Scheme

For the Prelims:

  • Negative marking is applicable
  • 1/3 marks are deducted for incorrect answers while 1 mark is accorded to a correctly answered question
  • This is taken in offline or online mode depending on the current situation, it is conducted based on OMR
  • There are two papers under the Prelims titled General Studies I along with General Paper-II

For the Mains:

  • Descriptive type of exam is conducted here
  • Each paper =100 marks so the total marks =300
  • The three papers are General Studies I along with General Paper-II and General Paper III
