Eligibility Criteria for Stenographer Post

KPSC or Kerala Public Service Commission (Kerala PSC) is a competitive recruitment examination to various public service sectors. Stenographer eligibility criteria include the generalized requirements along with some specialized criteria. These exams are to recruit eligible candidates to important government jobs and designations. As the eligibility criteria are continuously being updated, candidates need to check their eligibility according to the updated version of requirements. Categories such as subjects, school categories, and safety measures in light of the pandemic have been subjected to change. The KPSC releases annually an updated version of their eligibility criteria for the candidates aspiring to appear in the competitive exams. This eligibility criterion depends on several factors such as age limits, nationality as well as prior academic qualifications, and percentile. Aspirants who are seeking to enroll themselves in the admission process for appearing in the examinations need to meet these parameters for eligibility purposes. A new and revised eligibility criterion for KPSC is released for candidates in the 2022 session. 

The aspirants are looking for placements in gazetted positions in the civil service sectors of the state. There are essentially two kinds of categories into which candidates may be sorted. There are Group A positions and Group B positions. Additional requirements are there for aspirants appearing for the Stenographer position. 

Parameters of Eligibility for the Stenographer Position

According to the updated version of Kerala PSC eligibility criteria for the Stenographer 2022 session, particulars mainly include age limit and academic qualifications.
Other qualifications or eligibility parameters include:

  • Nationality
  • Experience

All these parameters are provided by the Kerala PSC. Additional information on these eligibility criteria is provided as follows. 

Scholarly Qualifications

  • Aspirants need to have secured SSLC qualifications.
  • Aspirants need to have cleared their graduate (Bachelor’s Degree) qualifying examination or equivalent exam from a recognized and established college or university.
  • Aspirants need to have cleared their post-graduate (Masters Degree) qualifying examination or equivalent exam from a recognized and established university. 
  • Aspirants must either have a relevant Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree or its equivalent. 
  • Typewriting English (KGTE/MGTE)
  • Typewriting Malayalam (KGTE)
  • Typewriting Shorthand English (KGTE/MGTE)
  • Shorthand Malayalam (KGTE)

Candidates thus must meet the minimum requirement of having either a Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree or its equivalent from an established and state-recognized university or college to get into the competitive exams. 

Nationality

For 2022, nationality remains an important criterion for the Kerala PSC eligibility requirement. As Kerala PSC dictates that the aspirants must be Indian and reside in India. 

Age Limit

The Kerala PSC has some strict guidelines regarding the age limit of aspiring individuals. 

  • General- 18 to upper limit is 36
  • OBC- 18 to upper limit is 38
  • SC/ST/CAT-1 – 18 to the upper limit is 40
  • Physically disabled- 18 to 45

The Kerala PSC, therefore, has the age limit divided according to categories of people. It also has a provision for widowed candidates and the age limit for that is 45 years. 

Experience

According to the Kerala PSC 2022 guidelines for stenographers, the experience criteria are split between the two categories of employment. For Group A, no experience is mandatory. For Group B, experience is mandatory. Special criteria are provided for individuals coming from a medical background. For aspirants seeking a Stenographer position, they need to have mandatory experience for a minimum of 1 year from an established quasi or governmental registered company or institution working in PABX operations. 

  • The internship is mandatory. All relevant documents showing that aspirants have duly completed their internship courses from recognized institutions or universities are of utmost importance
  • Medical exam certificates from the recognized university or an institution from where they obtained their degree certificates have to be provided at the time of applying for the Main exams
