Light Keeper and Signaller – Port Exam Negative Marking
The Kerala PSC conducts an examination each year to fill the vacancies of several job positions offered by the State Government of Kerala. These examinations are highly competitive. The candidates who’ve just passed their 10th standard and received their SSLC certificate can immediately apply for the prelims or Common Entrance Test. After securing minimum passing marks the aspirants are now eligible to sit for the final examination.
As mentioned above, owing to its highly competitive nature the examination for light keeper and signaller – port has negative marking criteria.
The rules are vividly stated on the official website of the Kerala PSC as well:
There is a negative marking of 1/3rd if a candidate chooses the wrong option for any question. However, if someone wants to skip a specific question, he/she is not awarded any marks for that question. Invalid questions or questions with irrelevant solutions are rejected by the commission and the full marks for that problem are given to all. These guidelines apply to each section of the question paper relating to a variety of subjects like General Awareness, local history, politics, arithmetic, English, computer knowledge, etc.
Bonus Tips to Avoid Negative Marking
Apart from mandatory school textbooks, each candidate must put effort into solving questions that are discussed in NCERT textbooks as well.
Reading English as well as local language newspapers should be a part of the daily regime.
It is essential to revise time and again for optimum results. This proves to be spot on when it comes to avoiding any confusion just before the exam.
The aspirants may consider rehearsing through mock tests as it will help them identify their strong points, and weak subjects and this will further assist in their time allotment to each section.
Lastly, one must avoid the question if he/she is even a bit doubtful regarding the correct option.

ഏതെങ്കിലും ചോദ്യത്തിന് ഒരു ഉദ്യോഗാർത്ഥി തെറ്റായ ഓപ്ഷൻ തിരഞ്ഞെടുത്താൽ 1/3-ന്‍റെ നെഗറ്റീവ് മാർക്കിംഗ് ഉണ്ട്. എന്നിരുന്നാലും, ആരെങ്കിലും ഒരു നിർദ്ദിഷ്ട ചോദ്യം ഒഴിവാക്കാൻ ആഗ്രഹിക്കുന്നുവെങ്കിൽ, ആ ചോദ്യത്തിന് അവന്/അവൾക്ക് ഒരു മാർക്കും നൽകുന്നില്ല. അസാധുവായ ചോദ്യങ്ങളോ അപ്രസക്തമായ പരിഹാരങ്ങളുള്ള ചോദ്യങ്ങളോ കമ്മീഷൻ നിരസിക്കുകയും ആ പ്രശ്നത്തിനുള്ള മുഴുവൻ മാർക്കും എല്ലാവർക്കും നൽകുകയും ചെയ്യുന്നു. പൊതുവായ അവബോധം, പ്രാദേശിക ചരിത്രം, രാഷ്ട്രീയം, കണക്ക്, ഇംഗ്ലീഷ്, കമ്പ്യൂട്ടർ പരിജ്ഞാനം തുടങ്ങിയ വിവിധ വിഷയങ്ങളുമായി ബന്ധപ്പെട്ട ചോദ്യപേപ്പറിന്‍റെ ഓരോ വിഭാഗത്തിനും ഈ മാർഗ്ഗനിർദ്ദേശങ്ങൾ ബാധകമാണ്.
നെഗറ്റീവ് മാർക്കിങ് ഒഴിവാക്കാനുള്ള ബോണസ് ടിപ്പുകൾ:
ഉറപ്പായും പഠിക്കേണ്ട സ്കൂൾ പാഠപുസ്തകങ്ങൾ കൂടാതെ, ഓരോ ഉദ്യോഗാർത്ഥിയും എൻ.സി.ഇ.ആർ.ടി. പാഠപുസ്തകങ്ങളിൽ ചർച്ച ചെയ്യുന്ന ചോദ്യങ്ങൾ പരിഹരിക്കാൻ ശ്രമിക്കണം.
ഇംഗ്ലീഷും പ്രാദേശിക ഭാഷാ പത്രങ്ങളും വായിക്കുന്നത് ദൈനംദിന ജീവിതത്തിന്‍റെ ഭാഗമാക്കണം.
ഒപ്റ്റിമൽ ഫലങ്ങൾക്കായി, വീണ്ടും വീണ്ടും പുനപരിശോധിക്കേണ്ടത് അത്യാവശ്യമാണ്. പരീക്ഷയ്ക്ക് തൊട്ടുമുമ്പ് ഏതെങ്കിലും തരത്തിലുള്ള ആശയക്കുഴപ്പം ഒഴിവാക്കാൻ ഇത് സഹായിക്കും.
