Kalapani dispute is a conflict between India and Nepal as both countries claim that the Kalapani border area comes under their integral part of their territory or region. Furthermore, this dispute is mainly based on the “different interpretation of the origin of the rivers” and “its tributaries” that flow and divide through the “Lipulekh pass and mountains.” In addition, this “Lipulekh pass” is situated at the “far western point” close to the Kalapani that is near to the Nepal and India border. A mountainous gap that is “Lipulekh pass” also links “the Byans valley of Uttarakhand”, “India” along “Tibet Autonomous of China” and determines “last territorial point in the territory of India”.

What is the Kalapani dispute?

This dispute is mainly based on the territorial conflicts between two countries that are India and Nepal. In addition, the region of “Kalapani” border is closely situated under the border area of both countries, Nepal and India. Both countries claim that this region comes under their own territorial area. Furthermore, Nepal has “two tri- junctions” with “India as well as China”, the one dispute is “the region of “Lipulekh” in “Kalapani” at the border of “Uttarakhand” with Nepal”. The protest against India in Nepal has been occurred with regard to “opening up of the “Kailash Mansarovar travel” area or region.” In accordance with “the treaty of Sugauli,” “Nepal and British India” considered that the “region of Kali rivers bordered Nepal’s boundary with India.” In addition, this dispute is generally based on the “interpretation of the origin of Kali Rivers” and it’s “various tributaries.” In 2015, Nepal released its territorial map in order to locate its territory on the global map and in this modified map, Nepal includes this disputed region or area under their territory however, and India claims that the Kalapani region comes under their territorial region.

History behind Kalapani dispute in the India and Nepal border region

Nepal divides its border with several Indian states such as Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Uttarakhand, West Bengal, and Sikkim. The area or region near to the Sikkim and Uttarakhand are mainly creating dispute between these two countries as it has been proved as reason of conflict as it helps the countries in enhancing their economical aspects. During British rule in India, Britishers annexed most of the regions that are close to the Sikkim and Uttarakhand region. In accordance with the “Treaty of Sugauli” the britishers annexed the “lipulekh pass” under the Indian territory of British India. Kalapani region or area has come under “the Indian territory” since the “Anglo-Nepal treaty of 1816.” Furthermore, in 1997, Nepal raised its “controversial statements” after “China and India” allowed it to “open the lipulekh pass to start the Kailash mansarovar route” in order to “facilitate tourism” as well as “economical growth of countries.” In 2015, Nepal further released its geographical map in order to give information that the Lipulekh region and kalapani region comes under their territory.

Significance of Lipulekh pass

The significance of this pass depicts that it connects two countries, which are India and china. The two different countries are linked up together with the help of this pass as it connects “Byans valley of uttarakhand” with the “Tibet autonomous region of china.” The lipulekh pass creates an ultimate “territorial point” in the Indian region by connecting two different countries through a pass. This mountainous gap signifies that it helps to facilitate the economic activities in the countries. In addition, it also helps the country in order to keep eye on the neighbouring country’s illegal activities regarding the country’s territory. “The Kailash mansarovar region” made a “tri junctions” with the border of china, Nepal and India that comes under the district of Uttarakhand of India. The “valley of uttarakhand” that is close to the “Lipulekh pass” is also important as it identifies the “Indian route of Kailash Mansarovar”. The Kailash Mansarovar is one of the ancient pilgrimage sites of India and helps promote the tourism activities under the Indian states.

Conclusion

The entire article discusses territorial conflicts between both countries India and Nepal. As both countries claim that the Kalapani River comes under their territorial region, however this region is controlled by India as it legally comes under the Indian Territory. In addition, the lipulekh pass signifies that it facilitates different economic activities and tourism sectors in the countries. Furthermore, “The Kailash Mansarovar Route” also runs closely to this controversial region of these two countries. In order to promote the ancient pilgrimage sites that are located under this region, India has taken concern about this border dispute. The lipulekh pass is situated in the “Pithoragarh “district of the uttarakhand states of India.
