This is a world of competition where every country is trying to achieve success and fame for getting the best position in the global trade and economy. However, India and Mexico are two countries that have set an example of friendship and collaboration that has positively impacted both the country’s the trade and economy. This is because India and Mexico have striking similarities in history, geography, culture, civilisation, physiognomy, mind-sets, attitudes, and people’s values. Moreover, both countries have “large emerging economies and have similar socio-economic systems”.
Background of “India-Mexico Relations”
After India’s independence, Mexico was the first “Latin American country” recognised India and set up a diplomatic relationship with India in 1950. Mexicans respect the value and beliefs of Indian culture. Generally, Mexicans are highly interested in Indian culture, politics, social values and history. They admire India’s achievements in education, academic, sports and business fields. Mexican writers like Nobel-laureate and Indophine Octavio Paz portrayed India’s picture in the sixties. This shows how much the Mexicans admire Indian civilisation and culture. Indian freedom fighters and writers like Subhash Chandra Bose, Tagore, and Mahatma Gandhi are highly respected by the Mexicans.
Trade Relationship between India-Mexico
Recently, bilateral trade between these two countries has been growing rapidly, and digits are doubling consistently. However, the trade relationship between India and Mexico has gone through several ups and downs because, in 2008, the income from bilateral trade was the US $2.95 Billion, which was very low. Still, in the next year, it was more or less. But, after that, the income rate started to climb up suddenly from 2010, it is 49% and reached $3.26 Billion in the first “10 months of 2011”.
It shows the increasing bond between the two countries reflecting on their trade relations. Presently, the export rate of India to Mexico is the highest ($3.38 Billions) among other trading partners of India .
Political Relationship between India and Mexico
The commonalities, “convergence of world views”, increase India and Mexico’s collaboration towards many “global issues” like climate change, nuclear disarmament, and trade, economic and global architecture. Both countries have elevated “their ties to privileged partnership” in the time of “President Calderon’s state visit to India in 2007”. The two countries have exchanged many visits in the Government, state or Head level, and the last visit was President Pratibha Patil’s visit in 2008. Frequent visits of these two countries show the political understanding level between each other. From earlier times till now, none of these countries has reportedly spread violence against each other.
Cultural Relationship of the two countries
Mexicans’ keen interest in Indian culture, art, music, dance, foods and festivals made the Indians pleased, and they established the “Gurudev Tagore Indian Cultural Centre in Mexico City in 2010”. The main objective of setting up this cultural centre in the cities of Mexico was to influence society with the flavours of Indian culture. As known by all, Indian culture is full of flavours and colours, so it is quite natural that Mexicans are always keen to know about the history of India and its culture, sculpture, art and music because it is fascinating and mesmerising.
Importance of the relationship between two countries
The community of India, both in NRIs & PIOs living in Mexico, is very small and not more than 2000. So, in case the trade relations between these two countries will be increased. Then, the Indian community will be more powerful in Mexico. The numbers will be increased, which means Mexicans will be glad to accept the Indian people more humbly and politely if the relationship between the two countries will develop more in the future.
Another factor is if India or Mexico’s income rate will increase due to the bilateral trade, then both of the countries can groom their young generation’s future by investing more in academic perspectives.
Conclusion
From the above description of the two countries’ relationship, it is clear that both countries share an extremely cordial and warm relationship whether it comes to trade, economy, or culture. Both of the countries have extended their hands for each other’s support in the tough times, and that proves how strong the bond is between them. Presently, Mexico has become India’s favourite trading partner, so the country has exported a huge amount in Mexico compared to other countries. Now it comes to Mexico, that is what they have done for India, so in terms of talking about Mexico, they have given India enough freedom to do trading as per their convenience. Also, they have been permitted to establish the cultural centre by India to spread the flavours of Indian culture in Mexico.
