List of Finance Ministers of India from 1947 to 2022 Nirmala Sitharaman is India’s first full-time female finance minister. She took over on May 31, 2019. Let us look at India’s Finance Ministers from 1947 to the present. Taxation, financial law, financial institutions, capital markets, central and state finances, and the Union Budget are all handled by the Ministry of Finance. R. K. Shanmukham Chetty was the first Finance Minister of independent India and delivered the first Budget. The Minister of Finance is the chief of the Ministry of Finance in the Government of India. The finance minister, one of the Union Cabinet’s most senior roles, is in charge of the government’s fiscal policies. One of the Finance Minister’s primary tasks is to present the annual Union Budget to Parliament, which details the government’s tax and spending intentions for the following fiscal year. In the Budget, the finance minister details the expenditures to several departments and ministries. He is occasionally assisted by the Minister of State for Finance and the lower-ranking Deputy Minister of Finance. Morarji Desai, Charan Singh, Vishwanath Pratap Singh, and Manmohan Singh are among the Finance Ministers who have become Prime Ministers, as have R. Venkataraman and Pranab Mukherjee. Several more Prime Ministers have taken over the finance ministry since then. India’s current Finance Minister is Nirmala Sitharaman.
