The Constitution Day has celebrated in India on November 26th every year to memorate the adoption of the constitution of India. The Constituent Assembly of India adopted the Constitution of India on November 26, 1949. It came into effect on January 26, 1950. Previously Constitution Day was celebrated as Law Day and this day will also consider Samvidhan Diwas. This day was marked as the 72nd anniversary of the adoption of the Indian constitution. The foundation of this day was laid in October 2015 during the inauguration of the Ambedkar memorial at the Indu Mills compounds in Bombay. The Ministry of External Affairs directed all overseas Indian schools to celebrate November 26 as constitution day.

History of Constitution Day

The constitution of India will be made by the constituent assembly of India which was under the cabinet mission plan of 1946. The first meeting for this was held on December 9, 2021. Dr Sachidanand Sinha was elected as the Provisional President of the assembly. Dr Rajendra Prasad was also the permanent chairman of the assembly. 13 members of the committee were constituted to frame the constitution under the guidance of Dr BR Ambedkar. After that, based on the committee reports, a draft was prepared by the 7 members’ team. Our constitution is the longest-written constitution in the world which has 22 parts, 12 schedules and 395 articles.

Celebration of Constitution Day

There will be no such big celebrations on this day, however, this day is observed in various places in different ways – 

  • On this day, various essay and quiz competitions are organized for the students.
  • Lectures are delivered on salient features of each school
  • There are quizzes and essay competitions both offline and online on the subject of the Indian Constitution.
