Basic Concepts of CAD/CAM

CAM is generally used as computer software and these machinery parts can control the computer while the work is running.

Table of Content
  •

Computer-aided manufacture (CAM) is software that can control the overall working process in which computers play a vital role to finish the work. Its manufacturing process helps to carry on the system smoothly while it is running. CAM is either to create a new manufacturing process or may improve the existing one and through using this software the efficiency level can be boosted up as well as reduce all the wastage related to the computer basic system. As a result, it has a high level of consistency, accuracy, and quality for which in this sector it is one of the essential parts.

Computer-aided manufacturing (CAM): Overview

CAD and CAM both are interrelated and without one the process is not running. Both are essential to carry on the overall working process in a smooth way. CAD is used to design the product or the related parts of the products. In addition, its structure and its functioning are all related to CDM. Whereas, CAM always focuses on how to create a new product. The machinery parts of any kind of product’s basic design can be drawn by using a CAD tool yet, the system is running only by using the CAM system then can realise how good the system has worked. Through CAD the basic design can be drawn by using the engineers and these physical properties can be handled by using the CAM system. When the design has been completed by using the CAD tool then the CAM process has been needed there where this design needs to be loaded. This traditional system is done through exporting the CAD file whereas the importing parts have been applied into the CAM software. After importing the CAD model into the CAM then the software starts working and the machining process then runs. It is the process where raw material is transformed through different actions such as drilling, cutting, and boring.

Features of CAM tools

CAM tools features depend on these factors

  • High-speed streamlining tool paths
  • Feature recognition
  • Multi-function Machining
  • Automatic machining process
  • 5 Axis Machining
  • Ease all of Use

Application of CAM tools

CAM is considered a programming tool in which 2D and 3D dimensional models can be generated in CAD. It has been generally used in the educational system and in the manufacturing company where these types of machines are useful to manufacture different kinds of models and in 2D or 3D dimension and manufacture engineers, as well as programmers, manufacture new models by using these well-skilled machinery tools, advance productivity tools through visualisation. According to the CIM data, Mastercam has mostly used CAM software for 26 years. Industry, software companies, and education purposes have been used. Computer-aided manufacturing CAM software prepares all the models for machining through various activities such as,

  • Thoroughly check the model and find out if any geometry errors can be found that will impact the overall manufacturing process.
  • Building a toolpath also set a coordinated for the new model for which the machine can work smoothly and ruining for a long time
  • Setting machine parameters which are very important and required for cutting speed, pierce/cut height, and voltage, etc.
  • This programmer or software tool has been used to create G-code and help to drive the CNC machine. For high-quality manufacturing processes in recent times, it is widely used all over the world.
  • This software also helps all manufacturing companies to optimize the transferring process of raw materials till up to finish the total process.

Conclusion

CAM is software that can control the overall working process in which computers play a vital role to finish the work. Its manufacturing process helps to carry on the system smoothly while it is running. CAD and CAM both are interrelated and without one the process is not running. CAD is used to design the product or the related parts of the products. In addition, its structure and its functioning are all related to CDM. Whereas, CAM always focuses on how to create a new product. In industry, software companies, and for education purposes, the CAM process has been widely used to boost up the efficiency of the machine to complete tasks in an easy way as well as in a short time.

Ans : A control-volume analysis proves to be useful in fluid flow as it is mainly concentrated on a particular volume and the fluid passing through it. In order to track the external flow situations, control volume analysis is more useful compared to that of a systematic one.

Ans : Choosing an easier control-volume is always the priority. A rectangle that has the XY axes, can have an unknown amount of flow. On the other hand, if the sides are followed by streamlines, the flow is calculated as zero.
