# Axial Compressors

In the following study, the expression "axial compressor" defines the gas compressor that is mainly used for repeatedly making gas pressure. Moreover, this is a rotating compressor made from an airfoil in which the gas works as fluid principles that flow parallel to its axis of rotation.

In one sentence it can be stated that an axial compressor is used to make its entire flow in an axial direction, and also when it exits from a gas turbine it comes in an axial direction. Besides this, there are some features of an axial compressor like the liquid energy transfer to the gas by rotating its blades. However, for maintaining an axial flow compressor two basic and most important elements are needed such as stator and rotor.

## Aerospace Engineering

In this competitive generation, aerospace engineering is one of the major fields of engineering that is used for mainly developing aircraft and spacecraft. Most of the students choose this study as a career because it provides good scope to them and various job opportunities in airlines, defence ministry, air force, helicopter companies and many more. However, aerospace engineering is a course that consists of several skills and knowledge like how to maintain spacecraft, aircraft, missiles, and various developed weapon systems. Besides this, there is another part of this subject that consists of a wide range of topics like computer structures, mathematics, electronics, robotics and more.

Moreover, it is considered one of the most determined parts of engineering and also cost-effective to the students. There are some required skills for studying aerospace engineering including highly mathematical skills, innovative product design power, excellent background in science, good physical stamina, and efficiency to work under pressure.

## Axial compressors

An axial-flow compressor is a high-speed flow rate machine that takes gas into different ports through the compression space by using rotor blades and stators. Most of the industries that used Axial flow machines in their infrastructure have a volumetric flow rate at a range of 104 to 106 cfm. Moreover, it can be seen that there is a small diameter in the maximum axial compressor because it is specially designed for jet engine application. Besides this, there are several applications of axial compressors including plant orientation, where it is needed to set a large volumetric flow rate compression.

However, it can be stated that the axial compressor is built on the applications of isolated airfoils which state the various methods using compressor blades. A compressor most of the time consists of multiple stages including how to flex its blades, managing pressure and more.

## Centrifugal and axial flow compressors

In a research study, it can be seen that a centrifugal compressor consists of more than one stage and sometimes it also consists of one stage. An individual stage consists of several rotating elements and stationary elements especially when the gas enters impartially with its axis. In a centrifugal compressor, the gas flows through a circular chamber that is called a diffuser where the velocity of the gas converts to pressure as per Bernoulli’s law. However, axial flow compressors are mainly used for managing both low pressure and as well as high pressure. Compared to a centrifugal compressor, it can be seen that axial flow does not change the flow direction of the gas, the gas enters and exits through the compressor in an axial direction.

The basic difference between a centrifugal compressor and an axial flow compressor is that a centrifugal compressor is non-parallel to the axis of its rotation whereas axial flow is parallel to the axis rotation.

## Multistage axial flow compressor

A multistage axial flow compressor is made of various alternative rows that are built for rotating its stationary blades known as stators and rotors. The first stationary row always comes before the rotor that is called IGV and every successful pair of rotor and stator is called multistage of axial flow compressor. Stator helps to make kinetic energy into internal energy by moving its blade row and creating pressure through a multistage axial compressor.

## Axial flow air compressor

An axial flow air compressor is mainly used where a high-speed flowing rate is required, and most of the time it is used in various aircraft engines. In this modern world, most high-speed engines use 10 to 15 compressors in different stages and axial compressors have higher flow rates with a greater pressure ratio that makes them effective in any engine. Apart from this, in the axial flow compressor, it can be seen that fluid always flows parallel to its axis of rotation.

### Conclusion

Hence it is concluded from the above study that axial pressure is a gas compressor that is used for continuously pressurized gases. Moreover, it is evaluated from the above study that axial flow does not change its rotation, it only flows in axial direction or parallel. This study suggested that there is a chance to increase the speed of the axial compressor by using a plasma actuator that can control its electric flow by controlling device momentum. Moreover, after evaluating the above study it can be summarized that the most positive side of using an axial compressor is its higher flow rate with greater pressure ratio.
