Dehumidification and Adsorption

What do we understand by ‘adsorption’? What is the meaning of ‘dehumidification’? What is a ‘dehumidifier’? In this section, we will be shedding light on all these interesting topics.

Table of Content
  •

For understanding the concepts around adsorption and dehumidification, we will focus on grasping the meaning of both these terms. Adsorption can be described as the way through which the transfer of a molecule from a fluid bulk to a solid surface takes place. The reason behind the occurrence of adsorption can be physical forces or chemical bonds. Now, we shall discuss the process of dehumidification. Dehumidification can be defined as the way through which water vapour’s moisture vapour gets removed from the air by keeping its dry bulb temperature constant.

Adsorption

As described above, adsorption is the mass transfer process. It is the phenomenon involving the adsorption of gases or solutes by solid or liquid surfaces. Depending upon the adsorption forces, the process of adsorption can be subdivided into two unique categories – physical adsorption and chemical adsorption. The process of physical adsorption is caused by the interaction amongst intermolecular forces. This kind of adsorption mostly occurs under certain conditions such as low temperature, fast adsorption rate, low adsorption heat and non selective. On the other hand, we have chemical adsorption which is caused due to the action of chemical bonds. This process involves forming and destructing chemical bonds. Both physical, as well as chemical adsorption, can occur together as well.

Dehumidification and dehumidifier

In literal terms, it can be said that dehumidification refers to the removal of humidity from the air. The process of dehumidification can be divided into three methods such as air conditioning, chemical dehumidification and mechanical dehumidification. A device that can help in reducing and maintaining humidity level in the air can be called a dehumidifier. Dehumidifiers can be helpful in a lot of ways such as one’s own comfort, health-related concerns, reducing musty odour and diminishing the growth of mildew by extracting water from the air. Dehumidifiers can be used in households, for commercial purposes, or as industrial applicants. Willis Carrier was a well-known American engineer who initially worked on air conditioning systems.

Conclusion

As we have come to the end of this segment, the concept of adsorption, dehumidification and dehumidifiers have become clear. In the world of science, the process of dehumidification can hold significant importance for gaining an understanding about the Universe. It can be understood that adsorption is the process through which the transfer of a molecule from a fluid bulk to a solid surface takes place. Dehumidification can be explained as the way of elimination of humidity from the air. Last but not the least, the device which can be used for reducing and maintaining humidity level in the air can be called a dehumidifier.

Ans : Adsorption is a very important concept in the world of science as well as in our lives. It can be understood as the procedure through which the transfer of a molecule from a fluid bulk to a solid surface takes place

Ans : Adsorption is the process of mass transfer. It can be of two types mainly; these are physical adsorption and chemical adsorption.

Ans : Adsorption is of two types – physical adsorption and chemical adsorption. Physical adsorption is mainly caused by the interaction amongst intermolecular forces. Physical adsorption mostly occurs under certain conditions such as low temperature, fast adsorption rate, low adsorption heat and non selective.

Ans : The process of adsorption can be of two types – physical adsorption and chemical adsorption. Chemical adsorption, as the name itself suggests, is caused due to the action of chemical bonds. It is concerned with the formation and destruction of chemical bonds.

Ans : Both physical and chemical adsorption are two main types of the adsorption process, even though they have come from the same heading, they are both unique from each other. While physical adsorption is mainly caused by the interaction amongst intermolecular forces, chemical adsorption is the process caused due to the action of chemical bonds. For physical adsorption, certain conditions may be necessary such as less temperature, quick adsorption rate, less adsorption heat and non selective. Chemical adsorption on the other hand is more concerned with the formation and destruction of chemical bonds.

Ans : A device that can help in reducing and maintaining humidity level in the air can be called a dehumidifier.

Ans : Dehumidification can be explained as the way through which the humidity from the air is eliminated. This goal can be achieved using dehumidifiers.

Ans : The process of dehumidification can be divided mainly into three methods such as air conditioning, chemical dehumidification and mechanical dehumidification.

Ans : In today’s modern world, dehumidifiers have become quite popular. They can be found in various settings for various different purposes. For example, one’s own comfort, use because of health-related concerns, minimising musty odour and limiting the growth of mildew by extracting water from the air. Dehumidifiers can be found in households, commercial uses or as industrial applicants.
