WPS Full Form

WPS is an acronym for Wi-Fi Protected Setup. WPS is an IEEE 802.11i specification for wireless access points that do not require a wired connection. WPS allows a new method of customising wireless networks using Wi-Fi devices that support it. WPS is indeed a Wi-Fi security protocol that is frequently used to protect wireless networks as well as enable secure connections.

To connect to another device, like a printer or repeater, first hit the WPS button on the access point and then immediately press the WPS button on the separate device, such as a printer or transceiver, or whatever you want to connect to. The router will automatically send and validate a password to that device, so you won’t need to perform anything manually. Once connected, the device it’ll save those qualifications in its memory. It is not necessary to connect every time you hit the push button.

An eight-digit PIN can be used with any WPS-capable router. This pin code is generated automatically and can be obtained from the WPS settings page of the router. This pin code is used on WPS-enabled devices without a push button or tab. As a result, they connect to the network using this Eight Digit Pin Code.

Characteristics

WPS, or Simple Wi-Fi Setup, is a network security mechanism used in a local wireless network.

A few of the essential traits may be stated as follows:

  1. WPS allows owners of Wi-Fi passwords to assist in preventing other customers from joining their network.
  2. Additional users can acquire WPS access by pressing the WPS button just on the device.
  3. WPS has multiple authentication modes: PBC   & PIN (Personal Identification Number) (Personal Identification Number).
  4. The WPS method defines three categories of network devices: Enrollments, who desire to join the network, or APs, which are access points that connect the Registrar and the Enrollee.

Advantages

  • WPS generates this same network name (SSID) and password again for access points automatically.
  • We don’t need to understand the network name or password to connect WPS-enabled devices.
  • Nobody can guess your security code because it is produced at random.
  • Because WPS connections are so convenient, we do not need to remember this identical username and password.
  • WPS has been simplified and is now available in Windows Vista.

Disadvantages

  • WPS doesn’t enable Ad Hoc networks that enable wireless devices to communicate without an access point.
  • It is less secure since it is a numerical code that may be cracked by brute force.
  • Due to the large sequences of hexadecimal characters, accessing this same non-WPS client is challenging.
  • Because WPS tech is still in its early stages, not every trader embraces it.
  • WPS can only be utilised in devices that support it; humans must connect in the usual manner.
