DBA is an abbreviation for Database Administrator, who saves and manages data using high-performance software. This word refers to the individual who controls, secures, and vindicates the system’s data so that customers can do business safely and confidently. Administrative database administrators, data warehouse database administrators, development database administrators, application database administrators, architects, and OLAP database administrators are the six categories of database administrators.

Types of Database Administrator (DBA) :

  1. Administrative DBA: Their role is to maintain and keep the server operational. They are concerned about data backups, security, troubleshooting, replication, migration, and other related issues.
  2. Data Warehouse DBA: Assigned previous roles but held liable for combining data from several sources into the data warehouse. They also create warehouses, cleaning and scrubbing data before loading.
  3. Development DBAs create and develop queries, stored procedures, and other applications to satisfy a company’s or organisation’s demands. They are both programmers.
  4. Application DBAs are responsible for managing the needs of application components that interface with databases and performing tasks such as application installation and coordination, application updates, database cloning, data load operational processes, and so on.
  5. Architects are in charge of developing schemas, such as constructing tables. They try to create a structure that matches the demands of the organisation.
  6. Developers & development DBAs utilise the design to create and implement real-world applications.
  7. OLAP DBAs create and construct multidimensional cubes for decision-making or OLAP systems.

Importance of Database Administrator

  • The Database Administrator maintains and controls the database’s three levels (internal, external, and conceptual).
  • They safeguard the safety, integrity, honesty, and security of people’s business data.
  • They aid in the restoration of data, including its backup.
  • They maintain the whole database efficiently and accurately.
  • They handle and monitor data merging across systems.
  • They can make changes to the old database.

Roles and Responsibilities of DBA:

  1. DBAs are crucial in installing, maintaining, and setting up new servers and databases.
  2. DBAs are also responsible for data extraction, processing, and loading. DBA assists in efficiently importing a huge number of data retrieved from many systems.
  3. DBAs manage huge amounts of unstructured data such as videos, photos, documents, etc.
  4. DBAs assist in the backup and recovery of lost databases. It develops processes for recovering data and executes them when necessary.
  5. DBA is available for troubleshooting and reduces the chance of data loss.

Skills for database administrator

Knowledge of database design, database queries, database theories, structured query language, storage technologies, security settings, and all information connected to data administration is needed for database administrators.
