Eligibility for TDR application:

A ticket deposit receipt can only be submitted for a refund claim if a customer has faced certain scenarios and wishes for a refund. These scenarios can be listed as follows:

  • The Railways has canceled a train. In case a train is canceled due to floods, bandh, etc, the entire refund will be allowed when applied with a 72-hour margin

  • The train has a delay of more than three hours. FOr this case scenario, the full refund will be made for the train running late by three hours

  • If a person doesn’t get to travel in the proper coach due to its unavailability the extra amount can be refunded. For example, if a person had paid for a 2 tier AC and the train arrives without the proper 2 tier AC coach, the person has to travel in a 3tier AC coach. In this case, the extra fare difference between 2 tier and 3 tier AC can be claimed as a refund via TDR

  • Failure of the AC. In case of AC failure in A1 or executive class coaches, The difference of fare between the executive class and the first class can be refunded. The Certificate from the TTE is a must to claim such a refund. Similarly, this can also be claimed for people who had to travel in a lower AC than as specified by the ticket of the holder

  • Proper ID cards are not taken during the journey. Then the person will be considered to be traveling without a ticket and money can be charged against him/her. The extra money taken by the TTE can be reclaimed back via ticket deposit receipt

  • Falsely charged and money extorted by the TTE. In case such a happens the entire money will be refunded back to the person of concern

  • Passenger or party traveled partially, so in that case, also apply for a TDR. For such a refund to go forward this must be certified by the TTE

  • If the railways are unable to provide proper accommodation then the full amount will be refunded

  • For tatkal tickets, if the tickets have been cancelled 24 hours before the start of the train then 25% without the tatkal charges will be refunded. After that, there is no means for any sort of refund
