The menstruation cycle is the term that is used to analyze the series of events that are appeared within the women’s body and prepare for pregnancy possibility for each month. The menstrual cycle is also considered as the beginning of the period up to the age limit of 51 years of women. The average phase of the menstruation cycle is considered 28 to 34 days long, however, the phase can range from 20 to 35 days in length.
Overview of Menstruation Cycle
The menstruation cycle is the part of the reproductive system of women that prepares the body for pregnancy possibility in each of the months. The average range of the cycle includes 28 days with four main phases that occur in each of the cycles during MC. The specific phases within the menstruation cycle include the “menses phase”, “follicular phase”, “ovulation”, and “luteal phase”. The last age limit of the menstruation cycle after which the women stop ovulating is 51 years which is termed Menopause. The phase of Follicular begins when the level of progesterone and estrogen is low. As a result, the upper layers of the uterine line (endometrium) break and rupture, causing menstrual bleeding. The phase of ovulation begins with increased levels of follicle-stimulating hormone and luteinizing hormone. During the phase of luteal, the level of follicle-stimulating hormone and luteinizing hormone decreases. The phase of menses lasts from one day to almost five days. The phase of follicular begins with the starting day of menstruation, the phase of ovulation lasts almost 16 to 33 hours, and the luteal phase lasts almost 14 days.
Discussion on Menstrual Hygiene Scheme
The “Menstrual Hygiene Scheme” is used to promote menstrual hygiene among young girls with an age limit of 10 to 19 years across rural areas. The main objective of the scheme is associated with the increase of awareness of Menstrual Hygiene among young girls across the rural areas which has been promoted by the “Ministry of Health and Family welfare” of India. The responsibility of the scheme includes an increase in the use of sanitary napkins with standard quality during the period for adolescent girls in rural areas. This initiative has been taken to ensure the safe disposal of all the usable sanitary napkins in a friendly manner that reduces the hygiene level in the reproductive organs of young girls. This is a very useful platform to have a focus on the issues related to menstrual hygiene and the girls feel free to discuss their issues. The platform is also developed for creating awareness among young girls about “hygienic and safe menstrual health practices” including reading materials, video, and audio for young girls to communicate with the staff of the scheme and resolve their problems.
Pregnancy Risks during the Menstruation Cycle
A woman can get pregnant right after the menstruation cycle after having cohabitation as the sperm can survive up to 5 to 7 days in the woman’s body. The time of ovulation is the most likely to get pregnant which occurs 11 to 15 days before the next period gets started. This also includes the phase range of ovulation that is responsible to get pregnant when the egg is released from the ovaries. The post-menstruation stage and post-ovulation stage are considered the possibility to conceive after having the cohabitation and the time limits are 8 to 9 days and 10 to 14 days of the menstruation cycle.
The reason behind the irregularity of the Menstruation Cycle
The reasons behind irregular periods include stress, stopping or starting birth control, and natural hormone changes that affect the menstrual cycle. This also includes the side effects of some medicines that influence the fall and rise of hormones within the women’s body. High or low body weight is another significant reason to have irregularity in the menstruation cycle. The fluctuation in the thyroid level also causes period problems that affect the menstruation cycle significantly. Insufficient calories are responsible for hormone imbalance within the women’s body and the irregularity has begun during the menstruation cycle.
Conclusion
The menstruation cycle includes the phase of the period and is the part of the reproductive system of a women’s body and the women get the possibility to become pregnant. The fall and rising effects of hormones in the women’s body are triggered by the steps of the menstruation cycle.
