Web Browser and Web Server

Web Browser and Web Server both send requests to a Web Server and retrieve information. Web Browser and Web Server both are client side tools. Web Browser sends requests to a Web Server and retrieves information from it. Web Server receives requests from a Web Browser and sends requested information to that browser. Web Browser: A browser is software that uses the World Wide Web to convey information about its user’s interactions with websites. Some browsers are standalone programs, but many others can be embedded into another application, such as a mobile device or word processor. Web Browsers display documents, images and other user-generated content on the screen.

Benefits of Web Browser:

(1) Web Browsers are user tools for accessing web services. (2) Web Browsers can be used with or without a net connection. (3) Web Browser allows users to see and interact with web pages. Examples of Web Browsers are: Chrome, Safari , Firefox, Internet Explorer etc.

Functions of Web Browser:

A Web Browser will typically support the following functions. Web Browser sends requests to Web Server to retrieve files and display them on the screen. It retrieves information in a human understandable format using HTML code. It shows a graphical interface to browse the internet. A browser can also provide additional functionalities like allowing users to write emails or chat using the internet services provided by their respective web services providers. Web Server: A server is any computer designed to run an application (such as a website) for communication between multiple users through one or more networked computers.

Functions of Web Server:

A Web Server will typically support the following functions. A Web Server connects to the Internet and keeps track of the location of files and directories on other servers, and may also provide data files not kept elsewhere. In home networking, a computer that provides shared access to its own services (such as file sharing) is a server. A Web Server allows users to access data by retrieving it from computers and devices on its network. Web Server in simple words can be said as a full-fledged computer running internet services for small or large business purpose When we talk about differences between Web Browser and Web Server. It is important to know what exactly both of them do, how they function and at different places they are used.

Benefits of Web Server:

(1) Web Servers provide a site owner a way to publish, store and access their content from anywhere in the world. (2) Web Servers are more powerful than browsers and enable programmatic access to all sorts of services, usually for business purposes, but also for art. (3) Web Servers enables site owners to sell goods or services over the Internet. Examples of Web Server are: IIS, Apache HTTP etc. Difference between Web Browser and Web Server: Web Browsers send requests to Web Server to retrieve files and display them on the screen. Web Servers receive requests from Web Browsers and send requested information to that browser. Some key differences between Web Browser and Web Server are: 1) Web Browser is a software application which is used to access the internet and retrieve and display files from the Web Server. Web Server is a service which provides functionality to access stored resources on a server through the Web Browser. 2)Web Browser can be installed on Windows and Mac but Web Server is usually used for Web Hosting only in Dedicated Server 3)Web Browsers can load files locally or over the internet but Web Servers are always connected to the internet. 4)Web Browsers send requests to any Web Server where as Web Servers receive requests from specific Web Browsers 5) A Web Browser receives files from a Web Server and displays them on the screen but a Web Server receives files from a Web Browser and stores them on its storage device while making them available to users of the Web Server. 6)Mozilla Firefox, Internet Explorer, Opera, Google Chrome are the most popular Web Browsers whereas Apache and IIS are the most popular Web Servers in use. 7) A Web Browser is typically provided as a free service with every computer, mobile phone and other Internet-connected device. A Web Server will often require some sort of subscription, payment or a fee, or both. 8)A Web Browser is specifically designed to load, display and interact with hypertext documents on the World Wide Web (WWW). A Web Server is designed to function as part of a network hosting services for the internet. 9)Web Browser sees only text but not graphics. Web Server provides live image/graphics but does not understand text in any form.

Conclusion:

Web Server is used to store files and directories on other servers while serving them through the browser. In simple words We can say that A browser sends requests to a Web Server and retrieves information from it via network connection. While a Server sends a request to a browser and retrieves information from it.
