Difference between ICSE and IGCSE
Full Form
The full form of ICSE is the Indian certificate of secondary education and it is one of the most balanced and well distributed examinations in India . Whereas, the full form of IGCSE refers to the International general certificate of secondary examination.
Subject
Many subjects have more than one paper . In such cases the average marks of all the papers will be considered as the final marks. The students are supposed to give exams in 6 to 7 subjects but only the best of 5 would be calculated. There are 3 different groups of subjects which are as follows. Group One comprises of those subjects which are compulsory in nature for example English, history, civics, geography and second language. The group 2 comprises of those subjects out of which you have to select 2 or 3 subjects. Example of those subjects are maths, EVS, science economics ,etc. Group3, this requires only one subject to be selected like, home science. On the other hand, in IGCSE there are no mandatory subjects and students can select any subject of their interest.
Governing Bodies of the Examination
All the examinations, curriculum subjects election, paper checking and other related matters with smooth running of an examination board are looked after by the council of Indian school certificate examination in the case of ICSE. When it comes to IGCSE the University of Cambridge international examination is the authority related to by the governing body of the examination.
Level of Examination
ICSE sets a high standard when it comes to examinations at the national level. The examination focuses on effective study of the students and to provide them with the experience of elite level education. IGCSE is an examination at the international level.
Private Students
ICSE examinations can only be taken by those students who study in an ICSE board school or any school affiliated with them in any manner. Private students are not given the permission to sit for the ICSE examination. The IGCSE being an international examination allows private students to take up the examination without any complications.
Origin
The ICSE board was set up after the All India certificate examination conference conducted by the Minister of Education Maulana Abdul Kalam Azad. IGCSE was created and established by the University of Cambridge international examinations and it was based on a similar format as GCSE but it tried to stop the earlier flaws to keep in.

ICSE is undoubtedly a good source of education in India, it provides one of the highest quality of education and knowledge . IGCSE doesn’t give you anything less. ICSE and IGCSE have some similarities too like they both prioritise the leaning and fluent speaking of English.
