Award and Reward

Award and Reward sound similar except their meanings are rather unlike. Though, both are precious for any person as they give a feeling of contentment and respect, in return for their efforts. An award is bestowed in front of the mass public for distinction, but reward may or may not be conferred in public, it is a kind of payment given to a person for their good work. An award can be comprehended as the prize or any other equal mark of acknowledgment, endowed to credit an achievement. Conversely, reward alludes to something given in acknowledgment to someone, for the endeavors or service given by them.

Definition of Award

The award is an appreciation that is presented to individuals or an organization for accomplishing something enormous. They are usually in the form of gifts, trophies, tributes, cash, certificates, etc. Awards are a mark of someone’s merit or immense input in a particular field. They are also conferred when someone breaks a record. The significance of any award is based upon the status or position of the award giver i.e. awarder. Usually, an award function is arranged for conferring an award. Nominations are prepared for every award to reveal the name of equally entitled and competent personalities. The individuals or organizations who accomplish the specified criteria are therefore nominated, and lastly, the best man amid all is awarded. The judgment to opt for the best man is a complex task, so the decision to choose the right person is done by either a board of experts or by voting where people pick the winner or by award organizers.

Definition of Reward

The reward is the benefit (financial or otherwise) given to a person for his hard efforts to accomplish something. It is the just return for the services provided, by an individual. A reward is an appreciation, given for good work, authenticity, and helping some when he is in need. It is a kind of motivation or enticement to recognize a person’s effort in finishing something. The rewards are not exposed; they are given confidentially but can be extended in front of the public as well. In large organizations, employees are rewarded when they complete the target in a particular time or for their high performance, so they are given an increase in their salaries, or they are promoted to a superior position. This is done to promote their hard work in the future.

Example:

• Many times, people present ads in the newspaper that their dog or child or any belonging has gone missing or lost somewhere, and whoever discovers and carries it back will be rewarded with money.

• A stranger brings a badly injured person to the hospital, notifies his family about the accident, and pays full heed to save his life. For his good work, the family of the wounded thanked him. This thank you is a reward for his compassionate act. If the family gives any kind of monetary benefit to the stranger, it would also be termed as a reward.

Furthermore, it is also a mark of pride as well as an appreciation that an individual has accomplished something, for which he tried hard and due to his full devotion, dedication, and willpower, he got the victory.
