Low-cost Perovskite solar cells

International Advanced Research Centre for Powder Metallurgy and New Materials (ARCI), Hyderabad, has developed highly stable, inexpensive Carbon-based perovskite solar cells (CPSCs).

What is Perovskite:

  • It is a calcium titanium oxide mineral composed of calcium titanate.
  • It is also found in meteorites.

Perovskite solar cells:

  • It is a type of solar cell that uses perovskite materials for the generation of solar power by sunlight.
  • They have gained attention due to their high efficiency and potential for low-cost production.

Advantages:

  • High Efficiency: They can convert a large amount of sunlight into electricity, making them highly efficient in generating power.
  • Cost-Effectiveness: It is relatively inexpensive and easy to manufacture.
  • Versatility: Perovskite solar cells can be made flexible and lightweight, allowing for various applications.
  • Rapid Progress: Thus technology has been advancing rapidly, with continuous improvements in efficiency and stability, promising even better performance in the future.
