About Langya Virus/LayV
- Langya is part of the genus Henipavirus, which has a single-stranded RNA genome with a negative orientation.
- Hendra, Nipah, Cedar, Mojiang and the Ghanaian bat virus are other viruses belonging to the Henipavirus genus
- The virus is suspected to have jumped from animals to humans in a process called zoonosis.
- The LayV virus RNA has been predominantly found in shrews, which may be its natural hosts.
- Precaution: One should avoid coming in contact with the sick person.
- So far there is no vaccine for it.
