About Warli Tribe:
- Found in: Thane, Nashik and Dhule districts of Maharashtra, Valsad district of Gujarat, Karnataka, Goa and the Union Territories of Dadra & Nagar Haveli and Daman & Diu.
- They are small-scale cultivators and cultivate rice, pulses and vegetables.
- They also sell toddy, mahua and fuelwood to their tribesmen and neighboring communities for a living.
- They worship nature.
- The Warli Tribe follows a communal way of living, where the entire community lives together in a “wada” or a cluster of houses.
- They believe in collective decision-making, and the village headman, known as “Patil,” plays a crucial role in resolving disputes and maintaining harmony.
Why in news?
- The Warli tribe in Mumbai objects to the construction of a Shivaji museum on land they live on.
