All India Survey of Higher Education (AISHE) 2021–22: 30 Jan 2024

Key Highlights from AISHE 2021-22 Report

  • Enrollment Increase: Total student enrollment reached 4.33 crore, showing an increase from the previous year.
  • Government Institutions’ Dominance: 73.7% of students enrolled in government universities, with state public universities having the largest share (31%).
  • Female Enrollment Growth: Female student enrollment rose to 2.07 crores in 2021-22, a 32% increase since 2014-15, with the highest numbers at the postgraduate level (55.4% are women).
  • Gender Enrolment Ratio (GER): Stands at 28.4 for the age group 18-23 years, favoring women in 26 states and UTs. Chandigarh leads with the highest GER (64.8%).

Gross Enrolment Ratio (GER): Measures the number of students in higher education in a given population.

  • Gender Parity Index (GPI): At an all-India level, it is 1.01, indicating near parity between genders.
