Hiroshima AI Process (HAP)

The Hiroshima AI Process (HAP), was launched at the annual G7 Summit held in Hiroshima.

About HAP:

  • It is an effort by the G7 bloc to determine a way forward to regulate artificial intelligence (AI).
  • It emphasizes the benefits and problems related to generative AI (GAI).
    • Generative AI, or generative artificial intelligence, is a form of machine learning that is able to produce text, video, images, and other types of content.  Example: ChatGPT, Midjourney etc.
  • The HAP will work with international organizations including the Global Partnership on AI (GPAI) and the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).
  • Objective: To manage AI in a way that respects democratic principles ensures justice and accountability, and places a high priority on the security of AI systems.

 

Global Partnership on AI (GPAI):

  • Launched in 2020.
    • Secretariat: Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD).
  • It is an international initiative established to guide the responsible development and use of artificial intelligence (AI) in a manner that respects human rights and shared democratic values.  
  • Objective: GPAI seeks to bridge the gap between theory and practice by supporting research and applied activities in areas that are directly relevant to policymakers in the realm of AI.  
  • At present, it has 29 members, including India (one among 15 founding members).

  • The Hiroshima AI Process (HAP),  was launched at the annual G7 Summit held in Hiroshima.
