National Terrorism Data Fusion & Analysis Centre (NTDFAC) : 5 Feb, 2024

Why in News: 

  • The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has established the NTDFAC to consolidate information on terrorists and their networks within India. 

About NTDFAC:

  • Purpose: NTDFAC aims to serve as a centralized repository for detailed information on terrorist activities, including case histories, fingerprints, and social media profiles of individuals involved in terrorism.
  • Based on: Inspired from the US’s Global Terrorism Database (GTD).
  • Launched by: National Investigation Agency (NIA)

Key Features of NTDFAC:

  • Comprehensive Database: Includes extensive data on terrorists, facilitating detailed analysis and investigation.
  • Automated Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS): Incorporates the National Automated Fingerprint Identification System (NAFIS) with over 92 lakh fingerprint records for quick identification.
  • Face Recognition System: Utilizes advanced technology to scan and identify suspects from CCTV footage.
  • Support for State Police: Enables state police forces to access the central server for information on terrorists, enhancing collaborative efforts against terrorism.

National Automated Fingerprint Identification System (NAFIS):

  • Managed by: National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB).
  • Function: Acts as a nationwide database for crime- and criminal-related fingerprints, accessible to law enforcement agencies.
  • Unique Identifier: Assigns a 10-digit National Fingerprint Number (NFN) to each arrested individual, linking different crimes to the same person.
  • Integration: Connected to the Crime and Criminal Tracking Network & Systems (CCTNS) for seamless data management.
