About IPCC |
- It is an intergovernmental body of the United Nations.
- 1988: Established by the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).
- Secretariat: Geneva.
- It has produced six assessment reports, three special reports, and methodology reports.

Objective of IPCC reports |
- To provide guidelines for estimating greenhouse gas emissions and removal.
- To examine the science and consequences of climate change,
- To provide adaptation and mitigation measures.

Sixth Assessment Report (AR6) |
- It warned that the time to limit the rise of the world’s average surface temperature to 1.5 degrees Celsius from the pre-industrial era is running out.
- It also suggested strategies to slow warming and build resilience in natural systems.

What will the new report (AR7 ) include? |
- Three Working Group reports and a synthesis report will be included in the assessment reports.
- Reports on carbon removal and short-lived climate drivers, such as methane, will be presented.
- The technical recommendations on impacts and adaptation will be revised by the IPCC .

About Global Stocktake |
- It is a periodic review mechanism to assess the world’s progress towards the goals of the Paris Agreement 2015.
- It measures collective progress, identifies gaps, and suggests a better course of climate action.
