Why in news?
Both countries signed pacts on the construction of future power-generating units of the Kudankulam nuclear plant.
Agreement signed:
- Emphasis on future units of the Kudankulam nuclear project.
- Focusing on critical aspects of bilateral economic cooperation.
- Key Areas: nuclear power, medicines, pharmaceutical substances, and medical devices.
About Kundankulam nuclear power plant:
- India’s largest nuclear power plant is located in Tamil Nadu.
- Constructed with the assistance of Russia.
- With a 1,000 MW capacity, the first power unit has been in operation since February 2016.
- Full operational capacity expected by 2027.
