Why in the News?
As per the Sample Registration System (SRS) Report 2019, child mortality has reduced from 45 in 2014 to 35 in 2019.
- Government has also launched ‘Paalan 1000’ app to guide parents.

- India has taken rapid strides in reducing child mortality since 2014 from 45 per 1,000 live births to 35 per 1,000 live births in 2019,
- Child Mortality rate: Child mortality or the under-five mortality rate refers to the probability of a child dying between birth and exactly 5 years of age, expressed per 1,000 live births.
- Infant Mortality Rate: The infant mortality rate (IMR) is the number of infant deaths in a single year for every 1,000 live births in the same year.
About ‘Paalan 1000’:
Govt. launches new app, Paalan 1000, to guide parents.
- It focuses on the cognitive development of children in the first two years of their life.
- The app will provide practical advice to caregivers.
- The programme is aligned with the mission of the Rashtriya Bal Swasthya Karyakram (RBSK), emphasing responsive care and focusing interventions on the first 1000 days.
