Why in the News?
Recently, the Ministry of Rural Development announced a nationwide campaign to expedite the inclusion of women who are left out of the umbrella of Self Help Groups (SHGs) under the Deen Dayal Upadhyay National Rural Livelihood Mission.

About Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana – National Rural Livelihood Mission (DAY-NRLM)
- Aajeevika – National Rural Livelihoods Mission (NRLM) was launched in 2011.
- The program was renamed Deendayal Antayodaya Yojana (DAY-NRLM) in 2015.
- Ministry: The Ministry of Rural Development
- It was restructured version of Swarna Jayanti Gram Swarozgar Yojna.
- It is a centrally sponsored scheme.
- Aim:
- To create efficient and effective institutional platforms of the rural poor.
- To increase the avenues of livelihood options.
- To promote financial services and
- Salient Features:
- Universal Social Mobilisation (one woman per household SHG)
- Participatory Identification of Poor (poor people are identified by CBO’s and list is confirmed by Gram sabha)
- Revolving fund and Community Investment Fund (to the institution to strengthen them)
- Livelihoods (farm and non-farm sector)
About Self Help Groups (SHGs):
- SHG is a small group of people from a homogeneous class who come together to address their common problems.
- They pool their resources and use them to make small interest-bearing loans to their members.

- Emerge as an important micro-finance systems
- Develop entrepreneurship aptitudes among members.
- Empowerment at the grassroots
- Important tools for women to achieve socio-economic self-reliance.
