Recently, the National Medical Commission (NMC) mandated medical colleges to adopt the ABHA (Ayushman Bharat Health Account) ID registration system.

Introduction:

  • Definition: The ABHA ID is a unique 14-digit number assigned to individuals for identifying, authenticating, and linking their health records across different healthcare systems and stakeholders.
  • 2021:  It was launched.
  • Implementing Body: Developed by the National Health Authority (NHA), under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, as a component of the Ayushman Bharat Yojana.

  • Voluntary Participation: Individuals can choose to create an ABHA ID for secure health data management.
  • Centralized Health Records: ABHA aids in consolidating health records in a single, secure location.
  • Digital Accessibility: Facilitates digital access to health records for users, insurers, and healthcare providers.
  • Health Information Management: Enables easy digital retrieval of lab reports, prescriptions, and other medical documents.
  • Nationwide Connectivity: Connects hospitals across India digitally, ensuring efficient information sharing.
  • Voluntary Nature with Opt-Out: Registration for an ABHA ID is not mandatory, and individuals can remove their information from the database if desired.
