PRATUSH Radio Telescope – To study the Universe from the Moon’s Far Side: 1 April 2024

About PRATUSH:

  • PRATUSH (Probing ReionizATion of the Universe using Signal from Hydrogen)  is being built by the Raman Research Institute (RRI)  and the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO).
  • It will study when the first stars formed in our universe and the nature of the first stars. 
  • Initially, ISRO will place PRATUSH into orbit around the earth. After some fine-tuning, the space agency will launch it moonwards.
  • Advantages: Operating in free space and lesser ionosphere impact.

Why in news?

  • India is among the countries looking to put high-resolution telescopes on the far side of the moon. India has proposed the PRATUSH Telescope.
