About Raja Ravi Verma (1848-1906):
- Raja Ravi Verma was born into an aristocratic family in Travancore (Kerala).
- At the age of 14, Varma was patronised by Ayilyam Thirunal, the then ruler of Travancore, and went on to receive training in watercolours from Ramaswamy Naidu, the royal painter.
- He died on October 2, 1906, inside ‘Chithrashala,’ the artist’s studio at Kilimanoor Palace, leaving the painting ‘Parsi Lady’ unfinished.
Why in News?
- On the occasion of 176th birth anniversary of Raja Ravi Verma the first true copy of the painting Indulekha will be unveiled at the Kilimanoor (Kerala), where the artist was born in 1848.
