The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has launched an in-house developed, Artificial Intelligence (AI)-powered helpbot named “Abhay” as a real-time notice verification system to shield citizens from “digital arrest” scams.
Key Facts: Project Abhay & Notice Authentication System
The Helpbot Core: “Abhay” is India’s first real-time, automated AI-powered helpbot explicitly designed for the public to authenticate official summons or notices claiming to originate from the CBI.
Operational Protocol: The citizen safety verification layout involves a simple, sequential process on the agency’s framework:
Access the tool via the official database platform (cbi.gov.in).
Complete a secure One-Time Password (OTP) verification using a mobile number.
Upload a digital photo or scanned copy of the suspect legal notice.
The system analyzes the document properties and cross-checks it with institutional databases to declare it genuine or fraudulent.
CBI Mandate and Governance
Governing Charter: The CBI is not a statutory body; its enforcement mandate, search powers, and jurisdiction are derived entirely from the Delhi Special Police Establishment (DSPE) Act, 1946.
Nodal Ministry: It functions administratively under the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions.
Interpol Point of Contact: It acts as the official designated National Central Bureau (NCB) for India to coordinate cross-border international investigation protocols through Interpol.
