Mathura-Vrindavan aims to become a “net zero carbon emission” tourist destination by 2041.
Key Points:
How the plan of “net zero carbon emission” will be achieved?
Small circuits called ‘Parikrama Paths’ will be built which the pilgrim can use either on foot or using electric vehicles.
Tourist vehicles will be banned from the entire Braj region, which includes famous pilgrim centres such as Vrindavan and Krishna Janmabhoomi.
All 252 water bodies and 24 forests in the area will be revived.
What is net zero?
Net-zero, which refers to carbon neutrality, means a balance between the amount of earth-warming greenhouse gas (GHGs) emissions produced and the amount eliminated from the atmosphere to tackle climate change.
It will ensure that global warming is limited to 1.5 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial age levels.
Way to achieve Net Zero Target:
Planting trees or restoring forests.
Use of nature-friendly technology to store and capture carbon emitted from burning oil and coal.
