Coronal Holes

    • These are regions on the sun’s surface from where fast solar wind gushes out into space. 
    • They have lower temperatures and thus appear much darker than their surroundings.
    • Coronal holes are most prevalent and stable at the solar north and south poles.
    • They occur when the Sun’s magnetic field is open to interplanetary space.
      • Interplanetary Space: The region of space occurring around the sun and planets of the solar system.
