Eligibility for LS and JRF 2022
The Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) conducts a computer-based Joint CSIR-UGC NET exam twice through NTA every year. However, the test is now being conducted only once a year due to the pandemic. The Joint CSIR-UGC NET exam is held to fill vacancies for the position of Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) and Lectureship or assistant professor (LS) in Indian universities. This article will give you an insight into the eligibility requirements that candidates must meet to apply for and appear in the Joint CSIR-UGC NET exam.
Eligibility criteria for Joint CSIR-UGC NET exam 2022
Applicants who wish to take the Joint CSIR-UGC NET exam must ensure that they meet the eligibility requirements mentioned below:
Educational requirements
Candidates need to qualify for either one of them:
- Masters of Science (M.Sc.) degree or an equivalent degree/ BS-MS integrated program/ BS program (4 years)/ Bachelors in Technology/ B.Pharma/ BE/ MBBS with a minimum of 55% marks for general (UR)/ general-EWS and OBC candidates
- Reserved category candidates, i.e. ST /SC/ PwD/ third gender who holds a 50% aggregate marks in the above-mentioned degrees can appear for the exam
- Candidates in the last year of M.Sc. can also apply for the exam. They have to submit the attestation form duly certified by the Head of the Institute or department where the candidate is currently enrolled specifying the last date to declare the result
- The candidates who’ve completed their bachelor’s degree are only eligible to apply for the Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) vacancy and not for LS or an assistant professor
- B.E/ B.Tech/ MBBS/ B.Pharm/ B.S.C final year students who are awaiting their results can only apply for the fellowship. They are not eligible for Assistant Professor/ Lectureship
- B.Sc. (Hons.) final year students awaiting their results cannot apply
- NET qualified applicants will be eligible for lectureship/ Assistant Professor only if they meet the UGC requirements
- Ph.D. candidates who have completed their master’s course with a minimum of 50% marks before the date, September 19, 1991, would be considered eligible for Lectureship/ Assistant Professor only
Age criteria
- For JRF, as of 01/07/2020, the maximum upper age limit is 28 years. For reserved category students under ST/ SC/ PwD/ female applicants/ third gender, the upper age limit is relaxed by five years. For the OBC candidates, the upper age limit is relaxed by three years
- For the LS/ Assistant professor, there is no upper age limit
