What Is A Preamble ?

The Preamble of the Indian constitution is the main expression and introductory statement that broached the subject purpose. In this article we will learn about what is Preamble.

The Preamble of the Indian constitution is a main introductory part that provides a clear-cut purpose about the Indian constitution. The Preamble refers to how to use & handle it and what’s the main purpose. It is the first vital thing that is shown in the constitution. The word preamble comes from the Latin word Preambulus, and its meaning is to go prior. In simple words, the preamble meaning is that it is an introductory part for any act and any legislation. It shows the underlying philosophy and major purposes of the document. 

Meaning of the Preamble of Indian constitution 

The Preamble is the major and most effective introductory part of the specific document, which is necessary given into every kind of useful book. Essentially, it is an introductory statement that generally provides you with all kinds of information about the subject. The user manual essentially comprises the subject purpose, philosophy, uses, ideas and aspirations, major principles and also describes the main objectives. All kinds of information are demonstrated in the Preamble. It is the first thing mentioned on the front page of the document. So, that’s the main and vital purpose of the Preamble. The preamble definition is also defined in that it shows the main purposes. 

  • Apart from this, the Preamble meaning is that it’s a simple introductory part of our Indian constitution. 
  • Meanwhile, Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru presented the draft before the Constituent Assembly. This draft should show how our constitution is. What are the rights and the powers offered to the Indians? Also, what liberties are offered to the people, etc., are usually mentioned in the draft. All the expressions and ideas are demonstrated in the draft, which is presented by the Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru. 
  • The draft presented by the Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru is also known as the objective Resolution. It was presented on 13 Dec 1946. 
  • This presented draft was adopted on 22nd Jan 1947 as a preamble. After making the Preamble, it is modified once as per the 42nd amendment act. Through this, the Socialist, integrity, and secular words are composed under the Preamble. 

Important words of the Preamble of Indian constitution

There are the following words that are mentioned in the Indian constitution. So, prior to knowing more about it, first, let’s know the meaning of these words. 

  • We the People of India: It is the line that is mentioned in the Preamble. The preamble meaning is that which defines everything about the subject. Usually, this defined line establishes the source and power of the Indian constitution. Apart from this, it also demonstrates that the Indian constitution is not made by external people, it is made by our Indian peoples. India’s law is the most vital thing to make the constitution. Therefore, the source of the Indian Constitution is “We the People of India.”
  • Nature of the Preamble: Despite this, five additional words are given into the Preamble. It is Sovereign, Secular, Democratic, Socialist, and the last one is Republic. These words commonly define the Indian constitution’s nature and scope. 
  • The objective of the Preamble: There are four more words that are mentioned in the Preamble of the Indian constitution. These are Justice, liberty, equality, and the other is Fraternity is to establish the main objectives of the Indian Constitution. 
  • Apart from this, the Indian Constitution was adopted on 26th Nov 1949. 

Thus, in the general word, the Preamble definition is that it defines the main objectives, sources, nature, and other vital things of the Constitution of India.

Consequently, the Preamble of the Indian constitution is a succinct essential and the exclusive statement that charges out the guiding objective, declarations, and perspective of the Indian constitution. It was presented for the first time in the Constituent assembly by the pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru. It is one of the preambles that offer ideas and sources for India’s peoples that manifest about the following : (1) the commencement and main basis of the constitution, (2) the essence of the Indian condition (3) a proclamation of its pursuits and last one thing is adoption. So these are vital, and all the details are mentioned in the Preamble of the Indian Constitution.
