Find the Odd One Out

This article will talk about finding the odd one out. We will discuss how to tackle the questions which come in logical reasoning along with some examples.

Introduction

Classification

‘Classification’ signifies listing the things of a given gathering based on specific quality and afterwards picking the outsider out. Classification helps in finding the odd one out and there are various types of classification which we will discuss below.

Types

Type 1- Choosing the Odd Word

Q: Choose the word which is least similar to different words in the group.

  1. Dagger
  2. Hammer
  3. Knife
  4. Sword

Answer- b) Here all are sharp-edged and have a cutting activity with the exception of Hammer.

Type 2- Choosing the Odd Pair of Words

Q: Choose the Odd Group of Words

  1. Oil: Lamp
  2. Power: Machine
  3. Oxygen: Life
  4. Water: Tap

Answer- d) Obviously in every one of the sets second requires the first to work.

Type 3- Choosing the Odd Number

Q: Pick the number which is unique in relation to others in the group.

  1. 17
  2. 27
  3. 29
  4. 37

Answer- b) All are prime numbers except 27.

Type 4- Choosing the Odd Group of Numbers

Q: Choose the different number

  1. 21: 49
  2. 24: 64
  3. 25: 54
  4. 27: 81

Answer- c) In any remaining numbers, the subsequent number is the square of one-third of the main number.

Type 5- Choosing the Odd Group of Letters

Q: Choose the Odd Group of Letters

  1. APBQ
  2. CRDT
  3. EUFV
  4. GWHX

Answer- b) In any remaining, the first and the third, as well as the second and the fourth, are continuous letters in the English letters in order.

Finding the Odd Object

We can understand the concept through the following examples-

Example 1- marker, pencil, eraser, pen

Answer- All are used in writing except Eraser.

Example 2- 71, 73, 79, 91

Answer- Here all are prime numbers except 91 which is divisible by 3. Hence 91 is the Odd One Out.

Example 3- Compass, Book, Eraser & Pen

Answer- Compass, eraser & pen are all stationary items while the book is not. So the book is the odd one out.

Hence, the applicability of the object is again used here in finding the Odd One out.

History

Odd One Out, is a British game show in light of the American adaptation entitled Knockout. It circulated on BBC1 from 16 April 1982 to 19 April 1985 and was facilitated by Paul Daniels. The show depends on a brief American game show delivered by Ralph Edwards called Knockout, facilitated by Arte Johnson.

Gameplay

The object of Odd One Out is to figure out which one of four things doesn’t have a place and why it doesn’t have a place. After the player has effectively recognized the oddball, he/she can either figure the clarification or challenge his/her rivals to figure. Picking the right thing would score two focuses, and sorting out why it didn’t have a place by speculating the normal obligation of the other three or an effective test is worth three focuses more, for a sum of five places.
