Vibrant Village scheme

The Vibrant Village Scheme has a focus area that significantly concentrates on the border village of the country. It was confirmed by the government in the Union Budget 2022-23.

Features

1)First and the foremost feature of this scheme is its focus on the village infrastructure of the country. In this regard, proper housing is established, road connectivity is boosted and the tourist centers in the area are created.

2)Next in the line is its emphasis on the production of skills and the creation of livelihood opportunities for the people by giving them access to educational platforms and channels on television.

3)Merging of the existing schemes with the proposed plan that was recently introduced by the government, to make the process more effective.

Reasons

1)Border villages are often left out from the development benefits given by the government to the citizens.

2)The border area has a sparse population without any kind of proper connectivity which makes people less connected with the rest of the country.

3)Concentration on the Border villages helps in maintaining border security in the country.

Benefits

1)Potential conflicts are reduced with the help of this scheme of state.

2)The focus on tourism and road connectivity will invite more tourists from abroad.

3)Improvement in road connectivity improves the accessibility of various necessities and urgencies for the people.

Maternal Mortality Ratio

The Editorial discussion in Hindu in this context explains the state, Kerala, that has excelled in providing maternal and child health. The maternal mortality ratio is the key indicator of maternal mortality in a country.

A maternal death refers to the death of a woman while she is pregnant or dies due to childbirth or dies within 42 days of the termination of pregnancy. The maternal mortality ratio refers to the number of maternal deaths that occur during a given period for 1 lakh births during the same period.

It is alarming to know that India has one of the highest numbers of maternal deaths in the world. By SDC target 3.1, it is targeted to decrease the maternal mortality ratio of the world to less than 70 for 1 lakh births during that period.

Interestingly, Kerala has achieved a lot in this context by reducing the maternal mortality ratio from 42 to only 30. Further, Maharashtra also has excelled in this case where its MMR reduced from 55 to 38.

MEASURES TAKEN BY KERALA TO REDUCE THE MMR OF THE STATE

1) The first and the foremost thing it did was to develop quality standards in obstetric care of the state.

2)Nextly, it gave up huge emphasis on the management of the common causes that had increased maternal death in the state.

3)It also conducts maternal near-miss audits that help them in figuring out the real causes for the problem and what are the solutions for the same.

4) Kerala is the only state in India that has acted upon the operational guidelines that were laid by the maternal near-miss review which was released by the Union Health ministry in 2014.

Solar spicules on the Sun

The Editorial discussion in Hindu in this context explains the team of researchers from India and the U.K who have tried to explain the origin of spicules that are present on the surface of the sun.

Spicules are a part of the basic components of the solar chromosphere. It refers to a jet of dense gas that gets ejected from a layer of the sun’s chromosphere. Due to this phenomenon, the sun’s atmosphere gets pierced. Spicules provide carrier velocity to the Solar heat and wind that gets displaced from the sun’s chromophore.

This phenomenon has a length of about 4000-12000 km and a width of about 300-1100 km. It usually remains for about 15 minutes and can be a million degrees hotter than the chromophore. Notably, you can find this in the areas that have high magnetic flux. However, it is a bit difficult to study more than this from the earth. But, still, the researchers and the scientists will figure out some way of exploring more things like this.

Setting up bullion exchange

Bullion is a physically valuable and significant metal that turns into a pure metal after being refined from the refinery machines. It includes coins and bars which are made of silver, gold, palladium, and platinum. Bullion has a purity percentage of about 99.9%.

Significance of Bullion

1)Bullion is considered a reserve asset by the state and the central bank.

2)It benefits in protecting against the inflationary effects that may occur in the country’s economy.

3)Bullion can be used by the authority of the country to settle various kinds of international debt, thus the ability to stimulate the economy.
