Tools of Promotion

Let's walk through the concept of promotion and its different tools like sales, advertising, and so on.

Promotion is an important and useful tool in any business. Promotion is a set of techniques attempted by businesses to achieve the target sales goal. To attract the target audience, every business uses different tools and methods of promotion. 

We will explore the meaning of promotion along with the different tools of promotion like sales promotion, digital marketing, etc. Let us first understand the meaning of promotion. 

Promotion

The term originated from the Latin word ‘promovere’, meaning moving from one end to another. Promotion is a set of techniques that every business uses to promote its brand, product, or services. 

In other words, promotion is a method of publicising the products, ideas, and products of the company to increase its sales. There are some examples of promotions that may help you in understanding the concept of promotion. They are as follows:

  1. The sale or limited offer for a particular product.
  2. Flash discount on first 10 or 100 purchases.
  3. Gifting free items with the minimum purchase value.
  4. Limited-time freebies.
  5. Free demo or trial.
  6. Limited-time free shipping.
  7. Buy one, get one offer.
  8. Special merchandise for occasions like valentine’s gift sets with special discounts.
  9. Various competitions.

Tools of Promotion

There are different tools of promotion that a business can use to increase the sales of the company’s product. 

The different tools of promotion are as follows:

 

  • Sales Promotion: In the promotional tools, the first and most effective tool in sales promotion. In sales promotion, different and effective techniques are used to increase the sales of the company. Hoarding on the building or shampoo-free samples at the mall are the best examples of sales promotion. Sales promotion uses different tools to increase product sales. Some of the sales promotion tools are the distribution of sample products along with the other product, warranty of the product, gifting coupons, etc. 

 

  • Advertising: It is a promotional tool, where a paid promotion is used for the sales promotion of their product or services via different channels. Promotion and advertising are the essential components for the success of any business. This tool affects the establishment of any brand in the market, growth in the sales of their products, etc. Advertising involves five Ms on deciding how to promote a product. These Ms are mission, message, money, measurement, and media. 
  • Direct Marketing: It is a sales promotional technique, where direct communication is established via direct channels. This tool can be used to convey the message of the company without using any middleman. The internet and social networking sites are some of the direct marketing tools. Direct mail to the customers, telemarketing, door-to-door marketing, etc., are also the techniques of direct marketing. Direct marketing is becoming a more influenced tool of promotion with the development and popularity of social media sites.
  • Public Relations: PR is an effective promotional tool in any business. PR or public relations plays an important role in the promotional activities of the company. This tool helps in creating and managing the positive image of the brand or product. This tool helps in increasing the sales of the company’s product with their different tools and techniques. This tool helps the consumers in better understanding their brand and product thereby gaining the trust of potential buyers towards the company.
  • Publicity: Another tool of promotion is publicity which enhances the visibility of your business, thereby establishing a wide network for your brand and product. Publicity can be of two types: positive or negative. One of the major points in publicity is that it involves media channels where companies have the least control over the content in comparison to other tools. Apart from this, there are many benefits of publicity, such as it is more economical than advertising. Publicity includes traditional news sources like newspapers and modern news sources like blogs, vlogs, websites, etc. 
  • Digital Marketing: This tool of promotion helps in increasing sales promotion. Online marketing is another name for digital marketing. It is a method of connecting with the potential buyer via the internet or other digital communications methods. Web-based advertising, social media like TikTok and Facebook, email, SEO, text messages are other examples of digital marketing.

Promotion helps in increasing the sales of their products, ideas, and services. There are various tools of promotion being used by companies to attract customers.
