Elementary Schools play a vital role in early development. Introducing Computer Science from the very beginning seems to impact technological awareness and advancement.

Elementary School holds a special place for children’s early development and nourishment. Recently the educational system has gone through a makeover where we decided to introduce the computer science curriculum to enhance technical advancement and early age development. The curriculum is designed to give them an introduction to several computer science terms and technologies. The technological revolution the world is facing is gradually leading us to a more sophisticated and simpler lifestyle. This article will discuss the computer science curriculum and its benefits and career opportunities.

What is elementary school?

An Elementary School or a grade school is where children are taught up to the first six years and sometimes eight years. Children aged 5 to 6 can study in an Elementary School. These programs are typically designed to provide fundamental education, reading skills, writing skills, mathematics as a base for solid learning. This compulsory education is often free of cost in many areas and countries. These are also known as primary education and secondary education. Nearly all the nations are committed to mass education, including complete elementary education for all. Different countries have different-different concepts of Primary education. Some start it when an infant comes about 2-3 years old, also known as kindergarten. Then there is Middle school for children up to 8-14 age group in (the US).

In India, each state has a director of public education who, among his other tasks, is responsible for the inculcation of primary education through productive activity and local crafts. In the Indian curricular system, the student may begin an eight-year elementary school at the age of 6 and move on to a three-year secondary school.

Computer Science- A field of infinite careers

Computer science refers to studying a machine known as a computer and its applications. Computer science works on the principles of Mathematics, algebra, software and hardware development, AI(Artificial Intelligence). This occupation has the fastest rate of growth compared to other occupations nationwide. The significant computer subfields of science include programming language, computer architecture, and software development. It also includes graphic and visualisation, algorithm techniques, database, and information systems and networks.

Job yielding Sector

Computer Science has a variety of job opportunities in today’s era. Everywhere today, there is a need for an AI, or you can use a Smartphone. A person with a smartphone can do majorly anything they want to buy something or watch something to see where a person is now just through their cell phone, all this because of Computer Science.

Computer science job opportunities depend on the degree of qualification. Graduates with an associate degree of qualification often pursue a role of Computer program specialist or web developer. At the same time, a bachelor’s degree opens doors for several job opportunities in software development and computer science.

There are an infinite number of jobs in Computer Science, for example

  • Web developer 
  • Software engineer
  • Data analyst
  • Web designer 
  • Data scientist
  • Video Game Developer, and many more.

Day by day Computer Science has become an essential part of our day-to-day life and changed every aspect of society. People can connect them with video call facilities. You can watch or stream movies or songs when you get bored. Cyber securities experts protect companies from any foreign and domestic interference. Thanks to the relationship between computer science and national security, the federal government has become one of the biggest employers of computer scientists and analysts. 

IF you have studied Computer Science degree, you may have gained many technical and non-technical skills which the employer highly values. Now everything is being related to Computer Science day by day new job opportunities cause the computer is operating everything; it’s just like water in our daily life. 

Computer Science in Elementary School

The use and application of Computer Science are increasing every day. Why not make the base more solid from the very beginning. It is an excellent option for the students to get started independently. There are many online courses from which a student of elementary school can learn the fundamentals of Computer Science, E.g., Grades K-5.

Computer Science encourages the following types of a higher level of thinking abilities;

  • Computation Thinking
  • Sequential Thinking 
  • Curiosity

Learning a computer language from the start may lead to a perfect future and a person full of skills which several employers want. Learning code is also referred to as learning a foreign language; It is easier to acquire it at a young age.

If your child decides to appoint a Computer Science career, they will have excellent earnings in the future and a great combination of skills. Computer Science jobs are expected to grow 12% more in 2024. 

Learning CS at a young age also has different advantages like;

  1. IF your child knows how to operate a computer, they can play other exciting games for their enjoyment.
  2. They can also easily do research for their school homework and assignments.

Conclusion

Computer Science is the definite future considering the pace of development this sector is going through. However, India was lacking in terms of computer science awareness as resources were scarce till now. Still, the recent developments in the Indian educational system have included computer science in the elementary school curriculum to fight this ignorance in technology. As stated above, there are countless career opportunities, and it will help us fight unemployment and eventually the betterment of several other problems.
