It is common knowledge that no two people are alike. There is always some variation among individuals in terms of quality, aptitude, skills, and so on. Individual variations force people to choose between being a leader and a follower. Leadership has been a part of human life since the dawn of time. This characteristic can also be found in lower animals. The quality of leadership available to a community determines its upward mobility. Every job requires leadership. Leadership is also essential in physical education to ensure the profession’s continued growth and vitality. Leaders must emerge from among the students currently studying for this profession.

Meaning of Leadership

In simple terms, ‘leadership’ can be described as a person’s ability to lead others. Leadership is defined as the ability to impact the lives and behaviours of others positively. Followers should be looking for and admiring traits in their lenders. A lender must start an activity that meets the group’s needs and see it through to completion. As a result, the leader is said to ‘take the lead,’ make appropriate ideas, show the proper route, serve as a role model for others, and persuade individuals to collaborate toward a common objective.

Qualities of a Leader

Leadership in physical education necessitates a combination of personal and professional abilities. These characteristics are listed below.

  1. Energetic: An energetic leader in physical education is required. It is, in fact, a prerequisite for this vocation.
  1. Affection and Friendliness: In this field, friendliness and affection are also required attributes for a leader. These characteristics are cultivated through physical education programmes and Olympic Games, particularly during training and tournaments.
  1. Decisiveness: In physical education, a leader needs to be determined. It implies that he should make decisions on the spur of the moment.
  1. Technically Skilled: A physical education leader should be technically proficient. He should be an expert in his field and area of expertise.
  1. Intelligence: A physical education leader should be intelligent. In truth, intelligence is defined as an individual’s capacity to identify potential solutions to various complex situations. They should be able to solve difficult problems straightforwardly. A wise physical education leader can be a boon to this profession.
  1. Creative: A physical education leader should be creative. Such leaders can develop new strategies or concepts in physical education, which are desperately needed.
  1. Teaching Ability: A leader in this profession should be well-versed in various teaching techniques. Physical education is now taught as a subject in schools. As a result, they should be proficient in various instructional strategies. They should also communicate effectively through body language, gestures, and expressions.
  1. Good Health: A physical education leader should be in good health. Such a leader can operate for longer periods without becoming exhausted.
  1. Dedication and Determination: Dedication and determination are essential characteristics for a leader in this field. They should be self-assured. They shook with determination to tackle even the most difficult challenges. They must also be committed to their profession.
  1. High Motor Capacity: A physical education leader must be physically fit. To achieve this, they should improve all aspects of physical fitness, including strength, speed, endurance, flexibility, and coordination.

CREATING LEADERS THROUGH PHYSICAL EDUCATION

Students joining this field will need to be instilled with proper qualities by today’s leaders. Physical education leaders of today should follow the correct way.

A variety of universities, institutes, colleges, and schools offer numerous chances for developing leaders in physical education. The following points must be stressed while producing or developing successful and efficient leaders in physical education.

  1. The most important aspect of this project is to determine which leadership qualities among students are already well developed and which need to be further developed.
  1. Next, decide which individuals or groups of kids you want to work with to improve their leadership skills the most. Decide whether you want more students actively involved in leadership activities or to provide young leaders with the opportunity to strengthen their leadership abilities. Then look for indicators of progress in their leadership abilities when organising various sports competitions.
  1. Some of the tactics listed below can be utilised effectively to improve leadership qualities.

(a) Provide various leadership opportunities for students, such as supervising and managing sports activities. For example, they may be named captains of several sports teams. In addition, assign numerous obligations such as membership in various committees, official duties, ground preparation duties, assisting instructors and coaches in operating clubs and teams, and encouraging other students in their play.

(a) Give them some leadership training. Ensure that any course you teach leads to applying information, skill, and understanding in a practical setting.

(c) Provide them with the opportunity to develop their abilities further. Provide a variety of leadership opportunities with increasing difficulty and complexity. As a result, they will be able to progress in this manner.

(d) Give the leaders a cap, shirt, or other uniforms to identify them. Again, this will serve as a driving force for other students.

  1. It’s also important to have faith and trust in kids. Please demonstrate that you believe in their ability to grow as a leader.
  1. Reward them for their progress and give them extra responsibilities for successful pupils.
  1. The final, but not least, stage in improving leadership qualities through physical education is to restart. Make a thorough examination of your accomplishments, and then search for areas where you may improve.

Conclusion

Every job requires leadership. Leadership is also essential in physical education to ensure the profession’s continued growth and vitality. Leaders must emerge from among the students currently studying for this profession. The field of physical education will grow and develop if leaders emerge. However, if no leaders emerge, physical education will degrade or worsen. Indeed, leadership is the skill of persuading others to collaborate harmoniously to pursue professional and personal objectives. A strong leader who leads from the front can have various effects on the team. They should inspire and increase their team’s morale and confidence.
