Characteristics of Management

Management is the process by which a cooperative group directs the actions of others toward common goals. Characteristics of management are explained in this article.

Management is the process of coordinating the efforts of a group of individuals to achieve a common goal. The manager’s functions and activities contribute to the fulfilment of organisational objectives.

For example, if a company’s goal is to sell 10,000 cell phones, the management will take action, motivate all employees, and organise all resources to sell 10,000 cell phones in mind.

Management Is a Science & An Art

Management is a science since it is globally accepted, contains cause and effect relationships, and so on, but it is also an art because it demands perfection via practice, practical knowledge, creativity, and personal abilities, among other things.

Management is a process.

Management is the process of effectively utilising human and machine resources in order to maximise product production. To reach the organization’s aim, management must complete the organization’s daily activities.

Management is a universal concept.

When we consider management as a process, we can see that it is universal and applicable to all types of businesses. Economic, commercial, charitable, religious, or political organisations may fall into this category.

Example: If there is a charitable organisation, it works in the field of education. To operate methodically, charitable organisations require effective administration.

Management is a non-tangible asset.

Management is intangible because it is an invisible force. Its impact can be felt in the form of enhanced production, better-informed decisions, and higher staff morale. Management is not visible or palpable. It assists the organisation in achieving its objectives.

Management Is A Social Process

Because it deals with people, the human component is the most essential among the other factors in management. It is the responsibility of management to ensure that personnel in a company work together closely. The manager is responsible for the interests of all affiliated organisations, employees, and others.

Management As A Guidance

The primary goal of management is to maximise the use of resources and materials to get better results. Management must ensure that the objectives are met by maximising resource usage. The main function of management is to finish the project by arranging the personnel who conduct various and distinct tasks.

Management As A Career

Management is a broad idea as a job or occupation. Management itself can be considered a vocation, and there is a lot of scope in Management presently, depending on people’s interests. Marketing, finance and people are just a few of the industries where you might make a living.

Management Is Multidimensional

Management encompasses not only personnel administration, but also tasks, processes, and operations.

(i) Management of Work:

Every company begins by doing some work or solving a set of problems. For example, a school delivers education to kids, a restaurant feeds people, and so on. Without management, none of this would be feasible.

(ii) Management of People:

To provide customers with high-quality satisfaction. As a result, it is vital to manage people so that work can be completed efficiently.

(iii) Management of Operations:

Every business begins by doing some task. Many activities, like sales, marketing, accounting, and so on, must be completed for the business to achieve its objectives. Management ensures that operations are running smoothly and efficiently.

Management Helps Established Principles Or Rules

Management aids in the application of established concepts or norms to achieve goals systematically or continuously, such as work division, discipline, and command unity. These concepts aid in the prevention and resolution of difficulties in the workplace.

Management As Leadership

Management entails leadership since management is responsible for leading a group of people, a community, or an organisation to achieve the desired goals. It must be able to motivate and inspire confidence in them.

Management Is Dynamic In Nature

Management is a dynamic process. That management is imaginative and creative. Any organisation can only thrive in a dynamic environment. Management should seek new and innovative ideas, new goods, and new features, among other things.

Management Is Situational In Nature

Management establishes plans, policies, and decisions based on the circumstances. Possibilities for management based on circumstances For example, when a company offers a large discount to customers during a festival, the manager makes arrangements to sell more of their items. In situational management, this is referred to as management.

Management is a team sport.

Management is a combination of teamwork and leadership in which all team members work together to effectively operate an organisation and all members take full responsibility. A good manager can accomplish what an individual cannot.

For example, if a company wishes to launch a new product, the team will design the product, the marketing team will publicise it, and the sales team will assist in the selling of the product, among other things. As a result, management is a team sport.

Management Improves Efficiency

Management aids in the improvement of the organization’s work effectiveness and efficiency. Because management takes a methodical approach to work in a company, it aids people in increasing their productivity and efficiency. As a result, it is regarded as one of the best management characteristics.

Management Need At All Levels

At all levels of the organisation, management is required. From the Board of Directors to the organization’s salesman, it ensures the organization’s effectiveness and responsibility.

This contributes to the company’s productivity, making it a multi-disciplinary activity.

Management Helps In Analysis

Management assists the company in analysing its performance at the end of the year. Because management creates an effective strategy, employees’ performance can be examined with the support of that manager.

Management Helps in Time Management

Management aids in time management which increases output in less time, reduces stress, and instils positive energy in personnel. As a result, both the organisation and the personnel benefit from new prospects.

Conclusion

Management is a process that focuses on achieving a set of objectives. It entails organising things so that everyone’s efforts can be directed toward a single objective. Every organisation has a defined purpose, goals, and targets, among other things, that must be met. These goals will not be met unless every member of the organisation contributes to them.

The objectives of the organisations are already specified during the planning stage, and management then assists in reaching those objectives within the pre-determined time range. Every firm has its own set of goals, but management aids in reaching them.
