Types of Trapezium

In this article we will discuss the Types of Trapezium, Trapezium Formulas, differences of Trapezium and Trapezoid, Angles and Area of Trapezium and more.

A trapezium is a convex quadrilateral with one set of parallel opposite sides. When sketched on a sheet of paper, a trapezium is a two-dimensional shape that looks like a table. A quadrilateral is a polygon with four sides and four vertices that is defined in Euclidean Geometry. A trapezium has four sides, four angles, and four vertices as a result of this. The trapezium is divided into three categories: Trapezium Isosceles, Trapezium Scalene and Right Trapezium.

Trapezium

A trapezium is a quadrilateral with one pair of parallel opposite sides, as defined by Euclidean geometry. Trapezium comes from the Greek word “trapeza,” which means “table.” A trapezium is a two-dimensional quadrilateral with a pair of parallel opposite sides (since it is made up of four straight lines). The trapezium’s base and legs are the opposing parallel sides. There are four sides and four corners to this closed planar shape. The following is a diagram of a trapezium:

The trapezium rule, in which the area under the curve is divided into varying numbers of trapeziums, is one of the most common applications of the trapezium. It is critical to accurately measure the size, shape, volume, and other features of a shape when considering different applications such as building, interior design, animation, 3D printing, and other fields of work.

Types of Trapezium

There are three main forms of trapezium, as listed below:

Trapezium Isosceles, Trapezium Scalene and Right Trapezium.

The length of the legs or the measurement of their angles are used to classify trapeziums.

Isosceles Trapezium

An isosceles trapezium has non-parallel sides that are all the same length.

The trapezium ABCD  seen above has non-parallel sides AD and BCthat are of identical length. As a result, the Trapezium in question is an isosceles triangle.

Right Trapezium

A trapezium with two adjacent right angles is known as a right trapezium.

Here angle of A is equal to 90 degree.

Acute Trapezium

Acute trapeziums have two consecutive acute angles on their longer base edges, whereas obtuse trapeziums have one acute and one obtuse angle on each base.

Properties of Trapezium

Each quadrilateral has its unique set of characteristics that distinguish it from the others. These attributes provide extra information about a shape’s geometrical construction. The following are the properties of trapezium:

  • It’s a two-dimensional shape.
  • A trapezium’s bases are parallel to one another.
  • Both diagonals have the same length.
  • A trapezium’s diagonals constantly cross one another.
  • The total of the adjacent internal angles is 180°.
  • In a trapezium, the sum of all internal angles is always 360°.

Trapezium Formula

Consider a trapezium with parallel sides of lengths a and b units and a height “h.”

Calculate the mean of the bases and multiply the outcome by the altitude to get the trapezium area.

 Area of a trapezium=((AB+DC)×AM=(a+b2)×h

Here AB, CD is the bases and AM is the altitude

The perimeter of a trapezium is calculated by adding all of its sides together.

 perimeter=AB+CD+BC+AD

Differences of Trapezium and Trapezoid

The trapezium seems to be a four-sided polygon and a two-dimensional figure with one pair of parallel sides that are opposite each other.

A trapezoid, on the other hand, is a four-sided polygon with no opposite pairs of parallel sides.

Between the American and British versions of Trapezium or Trapezoid, there is always a disagreement.

Irregular Trapezium

A trapezium has one set of parallel sides and two sets of non-parallel sides. The other two non-parallel sides of a regular trapezium will be equal, but the other two non-parallel opposing sides of an irregular trapezium will be unequal.

Conclusion

In this article, we looked into the trapezium’s fascinating universe. We discovered what a trapezium is and how to locate one. We also studied about the various sorts of trapeziums and what makes them unique in their own manner. We also studied the difference between a trapezium and a trapezoid, as well as their definitions and characteristics. A trapezium is a quadrilateral having at least one pair of parallel sides that is convex in shape. The bases are the parallel sides, while the legs, or lateral sides, are the other two. A trapezium is a four-sided flat shape with parallel opposite sides.

Ans. A trapezoid, or trapezium, is a closed flat object with four straight sides and one pair of parallel sides. The bases and legs of a trapezium are the parallel sides and the non-parallel sides, respectively. A trapezium might have parallel legs as well.

Ans. A trapezium is a four-sided polygon with no parallel sides in the United States (for some); a trapezium is a four-sided polygon with exactly one pair of parallel sides in the United Kingdom; and a trapezoid is a four-sided polygon with at least one pair of parallel sides in Canada.

Ans. The characteristics of trapezium are as follows: The trapezium’s four angles add up to 360 degrees, much like other quadrilaterals. Two parallel sides and two non-parallel sides make up a trapezium. Regular trapezium diagonals are bisected by each other.

Ans. A trapezium, also referred to as a trapezoid, is a quadrilateral with one pair of parallel sides and one set of non-parallel opposing sides. The area of a trapezium is calculated using the formula: Area=sum of parallel side×separation distance.

Ans. A trapezium is a four-sided shape having two parallel, longer sides and two lines connecting them. Roofs of houses, table tops, windows and doors, and pencil boxes are all instances of trapeziums in real life.
