Number Analogy:

The number analogy segment of the exam covers two types of questions:

  1. Using the relationship between the numbers in each pair to select a similarly linked pair as the supplied number pair.
  2. Selecting a number that is comparable to a collection of numbers based on certain shared characteristics.

Numerical analogy questions:

1)Choose the best alternative.

26 : 5 : : 65 : ?

  1. 6
  2. 7
  3. 8
  4. 9

Answer: Option C

Explanation:The relationship is (x² + 1) : x.

2)Choose the best alternative.

7 : 56 : : 9 : ?

  1. 63
  2. 81
  3. 90
  4. 99

Answer: Option C

Explanation:The relationship is x : x (x + 1).

i.e. x : x 2+ x.

So 9 : 92+ 9 = 81 + 9 = 90.

3)Choose the best alternative.

21 : 3 : : 574 : ?

  1. 23
  2. 82
  3. 97
  4. 113

Answer: Option B

Explanation:The relationship is 7x : x.

4)Choose the best alternative.

14 : 9 : : 26 : ?

  1. 12
  2. 13
  3. 15
  4. 31

Answer: Option C

Explanation:The relationship is (2x – 4) = x.

x = (26 + 4)/2

x = 15.

5)Choose the best alternative.

68 : 130 : : ? : 350

  1. 210
  2. 216
  3. 222
  4. 240

Answer: Option C

Explanation:Clearly, 68 = 4³ + 4; 130 = 5³ + 5; 350 = 7³ + 7. So, missing number = 6³ + 6 = 216 + 6 = 222.

6)Choose the best alternative.

7584 : 5362 : :  4673 : ?

  1. 2367
  2. 2451
  3. 2531
  4. None of these

Answer: Option B

Explanation:

The relationship is ?= x – 2222

7)Choose the best alternative.

5 : 36 : : 6 : ?

  1. 48
  2. 49
  3. 50
  4. 56

Answer: Option B

Explanation:The relationship is x  = ( x + 1)².

8)Choose the best alternative.

583 : 293 : : 488 : ?

  1. 291
  2. 378
  3. 487
  4. 581

Answer: Option B

Explanation:Sum of digits of the first number is 2 more than the sum of digits of second number.

9)Choose the best alternative.

16 : 56 : : 32 : ?

  1. 96
  2. 112
  3. 118
  4. 128

Answer: Option B

Explanation:The relationship is x : (7x/2).

10)Choose the best alternative.

49 : 81 : : 100 : ?

  1. 64
  2. 144
  3. 169
  4. None of these

Answer: Option B

Explanation:The relationship is x² : (x + 2)².

11)Choose the best alternative.

48 : 122 : : 168 : ?

  1. 215
  2. 225
  3. 290
  4. 292

Answer: Option C

Explanation:The relationship is (x²-1) : [(x+4)²+1].

Since 168=(13)²-1, so required number=(13+4)²+1=(17)²+1=290.

12)Choose the best alternative.

5 : 124 : : 7 : ?

  1. 125
  2. 248
  3. 342
  4. 343

11529 : 7235 : : 152943 : ?

  1. 62034
  2. 163044
  3. 203448
  4. 213549

Answer: Option D

Explanation:The sum of the digits of the numbers in each pair is the same.

14)Choose one of the four alternative sets of numbers that is similar to the provided set.

Given set : (6, 15, 28)

  1. (46, 56, 66)
  2. (50, 59, 71)
  3. (60, 67, 72)
  4. (60, 69, 82)

Answer: Option D

Explanation:

In each set, 2nd no. =(1st no. + 9) and 3rd no. = (2nd no. + 13).

15)Select the pair in which the numbers are appropriate as in the given pair.

12 : 144

  1. 22 :464
  2. 20 : 400
  3. 15 ; 135
  4. 10 ; 440

Answer: Option B

Explanation:The relationship is x : x².

Conclusion:

Our everyday issue solving is based on analogy. They are necessary for comprehending physics, mathematics, and other subjects. Analogical thinking is also important to human intellect. It is essential for a variety of tasks, including problem solving, thinking, discovery, and learning.

Ans. Finding a problem (source) that is similar to the problem you need to solve (target) and translating the answer of that source problem onto the target problem is the basic process of analogical reasoning.

Ans: The key to a good analogy is that the two items being compared are similar in every way.

Ans. Analogy, like induction, is a cost-cutting principle. The best comparison between two cases is the one that requires the least amount of information to derive the source from the destination.

Ans. Word parts are compared to other words in analogy strategies.

Ans. Word analogies promote a deep grasp of words by exploring relevant relationships, unlike vocabulary activities that require pupils to remember word definitions.
