It is very important to develop a plan and divide the syllabus efficiently. Make a daily study routine and give equal attention to all domains.
The first three months of preparation should be completely focused on concept building. The key focus area for each domain should be:
Parajumbles: Parajumbles consist of a set of sentences written in any order that must be placed in a logical paragraph. Look for the first sentence which usually contains the main idea.Look for links or other types of words that show how sentences fit together. Look for pairs of sentences that must go together. Regular practice will help you to understand the proper sequence logically.
Para Summary: For para summary questions, you must select an answer which best states the main idea of the passage. Eliminate any answer choice that is either too specific, too broad or not an accurate statement of the main idea. Be aware of the author's tone and the author's intent when determining the main idea of a passage.
Odd-one-out: In these questions you are supposed to identify the sentence that does not align with the paragraph. There may be other sentences in the paragraph that provide consistent logical links with each other, and there may be sentences that do not follow those logical links. Look for logical flow only while selecting the answer.
Reading Comprehension: The VARC section generally consists of 16 verbal ability topics as discussed above and 16 reading comprehension questions. These questions typically have 4 passages with 4 questions each. It is recommended to study topics from philosophy, history, socio-cultural issues, economics and AI.
Get a clear idea on how to attempt the Reading Comprehension Section in VARC:
Puzzles: Puzzle questions are an important part of the logical reasoning section, and they evaluate your ability to think and arrange logically. Different types of puzzles can be practiced, for instance, different types of arrangements, and a variety of ways to arrange things or choose from many options.
Tables and Graphs: You will be given questions that require the interpretation of a set of data from tables, graphs or maybe even a combination of each. Practice such questions to become faster and more accurate in reading data from a table, graph or combination of both. Learn to compare data sets in terms of ratios and percentage differences.
Games and Tournaments: This type of question will deal with ranking based on various scoring methods, as well as how to determine the outcome of various games. Make sure that you understand how to keep track of your score as well as the wins/losses, as well as the points system, for each player. Organize your data to help eliminate confusion.
Circular Arrangement: These questions test your ability to arrange objects in a circle and meet the specified requirements. Draw diagrams clearly so as to avoid errors.
Pie Charts: These questions generally require analyzing percentage based data. Practice comparing pie chart segments regularly to speed up calculation.
Arithmetic: Important topics for arithmetic include percentages, time and work, profit and loss, ratio and proportion and speed, time and distance.Practice as many types of questions as possible to improve your speed and accuracy. Learn shortcut methods, but understand the reasoning behind the shortcuts.
Algebra: Key areas of focus in algebra are, linear and quadratic equations, inequalities, functions and graphs. Work through practice questions regularly so that you improve your ability to interpret problems accurately.
Geometry: Important topics for geometry include, triangles, circles, quadrilaterals and mensuration. Be sure to memorize important formulas and properties. Be careful while solving diagram-based questions and improve accuracy.
