What is meant by Sales Letters?

Sales letters are the pieces of a pitch specifically designed to persuade potential customers to purchase the products and services from the particular company in the absence of a salesman.

When put together, it can be said that a sales letter plays the role of a salesman trying to sell the products and services, thus helping the company generate more revenue.

A sales letter is entirely different from a direct mail. It is used to sell a single product or product line. No graphic elements are used when it comes to the body of sales letters. Instead, the Sales letters are entirely composed of text.

What are the Elements and Format of a Sales Letter?

The following are the format and elements of a sales letter:

Sales Letter Elements

These are the main elements of the sales letter:

  1. Headline: Usually, an attractive opening sentence, acting as the heading of the sales letter, is used by the writer to attract the attention of the potential customer towards the main aim of the letter.
  2. Introductory paragraph: Introductory paragraph introduces the reader to the particular product or service the company is trying to promote. This paragraph consists of all details related to the products or services, including features, quality, cost, usage, and other information.
  3. Body: It is the element of the Sales letters in which the writer builds the credibility of the products or services. The writer tries to persuade the potential consumers to purchase the products by specifying the product’s worthiness, the difference from other competitive products present in the market, testimonials of experienced customers, etc.
  4. Call to Action: In the last section of a sales letter, the writer asks the readers for their response and expresses his gratitude on behalf of the company. A writer can add additional information about the products or services, including discounts, promotional offers, warranty, etc.

Sales Letter Format

The following  is the sales letter format:

  1. Name of the sender
  2. Organization’s name
  3. Address of the organization
  4. The date on which the letter is written
  5. Client’s name
  6. Address of the client
  7. Salutation
  8. Body
  9. Closing salutation
  10. Signature line

Key Tips to Write a Perfect Sales Letter

Here are some vital tips that will help to draft a perfect sales letter:

Craft An Attractive Headline Catching Your Reader’s Attention

The headline is the first thing your readers will read, so make sure it is a sure hit. Your heading should be crafted so that it conveys the main objective of the sales letter in one sentence.

Let’s take a sales letter example- XYZ Company can help you double your revenue without investing in digital advertisements.

Intrigue Your Potential Customers

Before communicating your offer to the readers, let them know ‘why’. Addressing the unspoken requirements of the potential customers is one of the great ways to connect them to your company’s products or services. You can attract more customers by explaining how they can be benefited from using your product or service.

For instance, if you write a sales letter for a bike, explain to your customers why they should buy the particular product from your company.

Use a Bulleted List to Introduce Your Offering

Always introduce your offering with a bang. Let your potential customers know how your product will solve their problems. You should use the bulleted list to highlight the critical information more effectively.

Let’s take a sales letter example- Our XYZ company offers two effective ways to increase revenue through online engagement.

  • Our team creates 100% original and relevant content attracting traffic to your site
  • Our company uses 25% more SEO-optimized content than other digital marketing firms

Use Customer Testimonials

Each customer needs proof and assurance that the product you are offering functions properly. The best way to show the value of your products and services is to include the testimonials in the sales letter.

If you are drafting a sales letter for a bike, you can add testimonials of satisfied customers and statistics showing the past sales of the bike manufactured by your company.

Conclusion

You might have received many letters in your email promoting different products or services, especially during festival seasons. These are the sales letters. Sales letters are the written communication between two parties with the motive of selling the products or services. If you want to increase the sales of your products without spending much on other advertising methods, you should know about sales letters, and how to draft a perfect one.
